Panniers Tailbox now with Honeycomb Polypropylene Bottom
I do my best to run a materials testing laboratory and report back to other bike manufacturers and custom builders. I learned from my mistakes. Actually the Honeycomb Polypropylene was not available until 2018, so it’s not my fault if I didn’t use it before 2018. ?The 4mm Coroplast is half the weight of the 5mm Honeycomb Polypropylene to be fair. Maybe just the bottom of the panniers needs to be the heavier material. Maybe if I didn’t run 85psi in my tires the Coroplast would last longer, LOL. The potholes on Hillside Avenue wrecked my panniers. |
Latest Photos ? Replaced Bike
The old Lafree is relegated to the corner of my basement, I got a new Fly-11
48v28ah battery? 500 watt rear hub motor? Salvaged the “M321” fairing from the Lafree, only thing worth saving on the bike. has three speed settings on the left handlebar, 1 = 19MPH, 2=25MPH, 3=31MPH Six speed cassette? I think hub motors have an advantage over mid drive, less wear on the chain. |
Bubble-X Polypropylene Compared to Coroplast
? ? HELLO! Long time no posts. I went to the plastic dealer looking for 4mm Coroplast, but they didn’t have any. They said $100 minimum order, and they don’t take cash…

Giant Lafree ? Latest Photos
Firstly ?I want you to know, there is a new 开云体育 app, and you too could be a beta tester... Roll call would be nice to see who’s still here.

Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Panels?12 Photos
Over the past few Covid weeks , I’ve been experimenting with Solar Panels.
It’s not enough to power a motor yet, but I’m thinking maybe 150 watts of panel could be installed on fairings / cargo crates , which would be of use charging the vehicles main battery. I had to install the panels because my Garmin (automotive) uses 2.1 amps. But I also use it to recharge my phone, and the new Bluetooth speaker. Plan to charge my camera on longer adventures. I’m glad I did this just to get some experience. Now that I know how a Charge Controller works, I’m becoming eager to create a solar/human hybrid powered vehicle. I hope everyone can view the latest photos. I put the warning “12 photos” in the title in case some people are still using dial-up.? |

Auto Makers exit E-Bikes to build E-Cars
Article does not translate well from German to English but point is the companies are switching away from building e-Bikes to focus only on building Electric Cars which are a hot market now in Europe. One comment I liked in the interview was referring to e-bikes being in the Kindergarten Phase similar to where Cellphones were in 1995 (as in just as cellphones started to take off till now where everyone has one).

Re: New project
开云体育I got a bit more done to the trike.? The motor frame is welded on and motor and drive chain for it fitted.I had some decent 20x3.0 tires and I changed out the tires that were on those rims for the bigger ones. The old tires were pretty much sun cracked so I cut the sidewalls off them and used the rest as liners for the 3" ones.? I had to splice a small section into each liner tire as they were not long enough but? I had another old tire that supplied the bits needed.? A bit of duck tape to smooth over any edges and I put the 3" tires on the rims. I used a lot of baby powder in the tires to make sure nothing was sticking with the tube when I pumped them back up. I need to make an idler pulley setup for the pedal chain now since this trike isn't adjustable.? - I welded the sections together as the back end of the bike frame didn't fit the trike frame very well - this is what the old tires looked like. They were almost new but sun killed |
Re: New project
开云体育It showed up? on my end too. I wasn't sure if it was working.? Both emails showed up, the first and the one I slightly edited.? I should have deleted the pictures from the second one I guess to save people a little bandwidth. On 11/29/2019 6:52 PM, etrikes@...

Re: New project
开云体育Your post appears on my side. It is a bit weird because on the Groups IO it says No New Messages and No Pending Messages even though yours showed up. It is not working like Yahoo. I set the Group up so people can post without my proof reading but that isn’t happening. Am getting to like Facebook more so will likely get the Mirror site up there this weekend. ?? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Lee Bell ? [Edited Message Follows] Ok, I'm trying out on here.? I haven't been getting anything from here so I want to see if this goes out in email. |
New project
Ok, I'm trying out on here.? I haven't been getting anything from here so I want to see if this goes out in email.
New trike project.? ?This one will get a 500w 24v scooter motor on it.? The pedals with drive the right rear wheel and the motor will drive the left rear wheel.?? It's only a single speed at the moment. I'm not sure if I want more speeds on it yet. I refused to pay $80 for a new rear axle that it needed and decided to go? instead with a 5/8" zinc plated shaft from home depo for $8 or so. I had to also replace the rear bearings as the original shaft was a 15mm type.? Since I needed two axles anyway that?worked out just fine as it was three feet long. I just cut it in half and am using one for each rear wheel. I haven't figured out exactly what I'm going to do for rear brakes yet.? Possibly get some axle adapter and use disk brakes between the frame and rear wheels. |

Next time you? need batteries try Batterysharks.com.?? Much cheaper than at any store I've seen and I always get good fresh batteries. I've been getting all mine from them for about 15 years now and I have to buy 6-8 12v
32a scooter batteries a year for my various trikes and bikes.
? It normally takes about 3-4 days to get an order from them. On 11/23/2019 7:37 PM, AviationMetalSmith wrote:

Re: Did my signup go through?
开云体育Yes, it is a floor pump and spare tire. It’s so heavy, I could never push it if it had a flat.
Had a fun time today, did my usual 5 mile ride, but the lighting battery was down to 8 volts when I got back, maybe it sat all summer without a fresh up charge. So I went to a hobby store, they told me they don’t carry lead acid
anymore, I asked them about the 11.1 volt, 5,000mah li/ions in the display case, there was also a marking “25C”... that turns out to be the capacitor rating, the caps are for motors, but the surge would blow out my LED’s , I was informed.
So I said I intend to stick with lead/acid as I have since 1984. The clerk said try a wheelchair mobility scooter place. So I went about 5 blocks to a surgical supply house ( in my van) and they said I should order it online...
I then went to Lowe’s, which was a longshot. But the clerk who asked “can I help you?” I happened to actually know from somewhere ... he sent me over to Micro Center, where the help was miserable, but the guy at the counter sent
me to aisle 8, and I found UPS batteries, which oddly were NOT marked with volts or amp hours, but they were 12v/7ah bricks, with vent caps. I had to pay $44.95 ! $48.87 with tax !
But I need lights on my bikes.
The e-motor-assist is coming, I have to get it going again. This week, as seen in the photo, I swopped rear panniers.

I have to admit it.? That one is different!?? Do you really carry around a full sized air pump and spare tire like that all the time?? There is such a thing as no flat tubes and tires ya know.? I used them in my stuff because
I have a bad leg and can't push a bike or trike if I get a flat.
