Switching between iGate and Radio
Apologize if all I need is a pointer to read the docs,? but....
?
I have a telemetry application? that normally talks KISS to direwolf and it sends out via the radio.? ? My understanding is that if I want to send out via iGate,? I would do that via my KISS? program and direwolf would just send to whichever I choose.? ? Is there a way to configure things so that if the packet fails sending to one of the iGate servers I have listed (like my starlink is down) it will automatically route start using the radio?

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHello Kevin, I have a telemetry application? that normally talks KISS to direwolf and it sends out via the radio. Are you sending these packets out as APRS packets? ? ? My understanding is that if I want to send out via iGate,? I would do that via my KISS? program and direwolf would just send to whichever I choose. To do that, you would want to use the fairly new and? Direwolf "ICHANNEL" feature.? You can read up more about that here: .? There are also some examples of using this in the email list archives: /g/direwolf/search?p=created%2C%2C%2C20%2C2%2C0%2C0&q=ICHANNEL ? ? Is there a way to configure things so that if the packet fails sending to one of the iGate servers I have listed (like my starlink is down) it will automatically route start using the radio? I don't know if Direwolf currently can make this "either / or" decision but I think it CAN send to both but maybe that isn't what you want.? Alternatively, I could imagine a monitoring script running in parallel to Direwolf looking for the TCP connection to an APRS Igate and if that connection isn't up over a certain period of time or that specific path isn't able to ping some specific destination like 8.8.8.8, you have your KISS program send packets to a different Direwolf interface to only send via RF. --David KI6ZHD |
I didn't explain that very well, but what I want is to send my APRS packets out over APRS-IS, unless my network goes down then try over RF.
?
I need to ponder the ICHANNEL docs some more, but I think that's what I want.? ? I? can setup two channels, one that is an igate and another that sends over RF.
?
Then a simple script that checks to see if the internet is available, and creates a packet for the appropriate channel.
?
At least that's the way I understand it.
