APRS Messages on packet

HI,

I've been using YAAC with direwolf on a Pi400 for APRS and decided to try using the same radio and the direwolf instance to connect to a Winlink packet gateway. It works as expected but I'm seeing an APRS related message in the direwold console that I would like to suppress.

K5PRK-10 audio level = 29(15/8)? ?[NONE]? ?_||||||||
[0.4] K5PRK-10>BEACON:Winlink 2000 RMS Packet Server<0x0d>

Unknown APRS Data Type Indicator "W", motorcycle

Is there something I need to change in the direwolf.conf to tell it we're not in APRS mode any more?

TIA

Danny

I think you need a different direwolf.conf.
In the DigiPi image, you make a use choice and the proper conf is loaded.

DigiPi is not a HAT, it is a Raspberry Pi image. Don¡¯t be mis-led by the comments about Fe-Pi (HAT) or any other audio HAT. It allows a user to pick the data mode they want to use and t loads the proper .conf for the job.. At one point, you might chose Winlink, and the next change to JS8CALL and then after that back to APRS. If you have a USB capable radio (IC-705) then it is practically automatic. The IC-705 stuff was developed early.

?

The way DigiPi works is, it copies a configuration for the mode you want to use into the Direwolf directory. There is no switching in a Direwolf.conf. Of course you could write a script to do the same.

In my test set up, I have direwolf.node.conf, direwolf.winlink.conf, direwolf.tnc.conf, direwolf.digi.conf. I have never seem a way for Direwolf to know what the user is up too.

?

DigiPi can use the Fe-Pi (which is a HAT), but, It can also use a DigiRig (radio interface ¨C not a HAT). The DigiRig is easy to work with. It at least does audio/CAT or audio/PTT.

?

My setup works for APRS and also works for Winlink packet (change frequency on the radio of course) without any changes to the .conf file. All I wanted to do was suppress the error reporting about the motorcycle symbol when it hears a Winlink packet beacon.

It works for both so the interface and radio aren't important but since you asked it's a plain USB soundcard and a FTDI USB serial port on the Pi to a Kenwood TM-V71A (set to Echolink Sysop mode).

Thanks for the clarification about the Digipi. :)

Danny
