A direwolf connection option using a CAT control cable with TRRS?

So i was looking at cat control for my usdx radio and i found this really set up.
?
Would something like this work for an HT ?
?
OF course you if you have a baofeng type, you would use the 2.5 / 3.5 head and then connect the bare wires to a FTDI / USB-TTL connector.
?
can this also be used for our use cases? if not, why not?
?
many thanks

Hello,

Most HT's don't support CAT control.? All that most HT's support is an external PTT signal via a grounded line via it's I/O port much like how an external microphone kit works.? In the URL you cited above, this is inferred in the PTT section using the "RTS" line (common) or "DTR" line.

OF course you if you have a baofeng type, you would use the 2.5 / 3.5 head and then connect the bare wires to a FTDI / USB-TTL connector.

It's not recommended to directly connect an RS232 adapter to a radio's PTT line.? Instead, it's recommended to use a simple buffer circuit using a single transistor and a few resistors.? This is covered in several Direwolf docs as well as other guides on the Internet.
