SDR install issue

 

I believe I have followed the directions to install the sdr version of direwolf.? I run into the following error upon start up using
rtl_fm -f 144.39M - | direwolf -c sdr.conf -r 24000 -D 1 -


Dire Wolf version 1.6
Includes optional support for:? cm108-ptt
?
Reading config file sdr.conf
Audio input device for receive: stdin? (channel 0)
Audio out device for transmit: null? (channel 0)
Found 1 device(s):
? 0:? , 4??~???~???~?x?v@??v???v, SN:?
?
Using device 0: Generic RTL2832U OEM
Channel 0: 1200 baud, AFSK 1200 & 2200 Hz, E+, 24000 sample rate.
Note: PTT not configured for channel 0. (Ignore this if using VOX.)
Ready to accept AGW client application 0 on port 8000 ...
usb_open error -3
Please fix the device permissions, e.g. by installing the udev rules file rtl-sdr.rules
Failed to open rtlsdr device #0.
Ready to accept KISS TCP client application 0 on port 8001 ...
?

Any suggestions would be helpful.??

you have a permissions issue
or something else is using the dongle?

read down on this page to read up on the udev rules


does the dongle work with other apps?? cubic ? or GQRX ?
if not then you need to add your self to the dialout group
sudo adduser $USER dialout

where $USER is your user name
then?log?out?and?back?in?for?changes?to?takes?effect
 

Not quite sure what better advice anyone could give beyond what Direwolf already has...
