DW recently stopped working...

Hi All.

OK, been using DW for a little while, comparing it with other tools
etc, on both Windows and Linux..

However, DW has just ceased to funciton on any Windows system I have
(Win 7 32 or 64 bit)

On Linux (Lubuntu) it still works great.

Other soundcard tools on Windows still work OK, Fldigi, UZ7HO's
soundcard modem and several others, not all Ham Radio related.

One clue..

DW doesn't even spit out the regular "samples per 100 second"
announcement, using ANY sound interface, built in or otherwise (AC97
based) or any of USB based systems (two Sounblaster, one iMic and an
anonymous eBay special) All those still work fine with other
programs, with no errors reported..

I've tried removing and re-installing etc, reviewing direwolf.conf
files between a working Linux system and so on.

Another clue. The teltale activity lights on some of the interfaces
blink when accessed OK, but obviously no samples are being "recorded"
(though Windows own level indicators, indicate that there is sound
reaching somewhere in the system.)

Sugestions anyone? DW is impressive on Linux, but it would seem that
something tweaked by updates have cripled it on Windows. Odd though,
that UZ7HO's (and other) soundcard based tools still work.

It's almost as if there is a hidden registry based trial timer that
has expired.

But even doing a clean fresh install on a (Win7/64) system that had
never had it, it doesn't work there either!

Answers/observations, diagnostic test suggestions etc welcome.

I never got it to work in my Windows machine in the first place.

Could you be a little more specific?
What do you mean by "ceased to function?"
If it did work and stopped working, something must have changed.
What is the software version? Is it the released 1.0 or one of the
many 1.1 development snapshots? What does it say when it starts
up? What is in the configuration file?
Hi John..

Much as in the original posting. (Please re-read ALL of my original post..)

It starts up, with no errors, and just sit's there consuming 24% of CPU, but NOT
spitting out the sample count every 100 seconds (like it's supposed to AFIK) nor
showing any received packet details, like UZ7HO's tool is doing on another
Windows box, running from the same radio's audio output, also as is DW on a
Linux box that is also doing just fine. (Though, empricaly, not as reliably as
UZ7HO's tool on the Windows box, but I've not set the levels up with any
particular care.)

When I first installed it (V 1.0a btw) it did work OK, but not any more. Nor,
after a fresh download and "clean" install on a W7/64 (not in the Program Files
(x86) structure either, I'm well aware of the pitfall's of putting stuff in there that
is not specifically designed for the newer Windows OS's.)
I have a folder:-
C:\HamProgramFiles\... that all but a few of my Ham tools are located in.

I'm not a novice user of Windows PC's, but am less of an experianced user of
Linux, so it's a little odd that I have troubles this way arround.

As to changes. Only whatever security patches MS push out on the monthly
updates, and today regarding the Russian time zone changes.

Heck, I've even got it to compile/build/run on a Raspberry Pi! I'm just waiting
for a powered USB hub and less power hungry sound device for that system.

I just found that if you run it from the command line, with -x, it DOES output
"calibration tones", but does not time out after some 15 seconds (or ?) as it does
on Linux.

Specifically:- -B 300 -x It "sounds" OK, but I've not made any
measurements of what it's sending. (HF packet test tones.)

I've even tried disabling the TCP (KISS and AGW) ports, but even comenting
them out in the .conf file, they are still created as listen ports, according to
Process Explorer.

Hmmm... I do see from the user guide (page 36) that it listens to ports 8000
and 8001 by default, so comenting out those settings in the .conf file I guess has
no effect.

Anyhow is there a system or multimedia timer usage issue on Windows now?

If you want any diag's done, or screen scrapes, just ask.

Best Regards.
