Hello Roby,
Leaving the AGW interface out of the discussion for a moment, once
DIrewolf connects to the APRS-IS system, you need to then send it
a PBEACON (Position Beacon) to let that system know where you are
located.? Once it then knows where you are, then it's a matter of
setting the FILTER, IGFILTER, IGTXVIA and IGTXLIMIT parameters for
the traffic you want to receive from the APRS-IS system and the
traffic you want to re-transmit back onto RF.? To start with, I
would recommend to only re-transmit APRS messages for your local
area.? That would be done with:
?? IGFILTER m/10
?? FILTER IG 0 t/m
That says "for the server side filter on the IG (igate) system to
ADEVICE 0, send this direwolf device unit all relevant APRS M
(messages) for a 10KM radius of your station.?? After that, please
consult the Direwolf User Guide and
of how to tune the reset
of these filters for the traffic you desire but be careful, it's
very easy to configure your system to start flooding the local RF
channel with irrelevant noise as well as very easily overheat and
destroy your transmitter radio.

Hi all, I have compiled the latest Direwolf version
for Linux and I would like to connect an APRS server
and send the received data to the AGWPE interface where an APRSWeb
server is connected.
Direwolf connects to the APRS server but if I debug the igate
(direwolf -di) I see no incoming traffic.
Is there some parameter to send to the APRS server to enable it to
forward all traffic to Direwolf?

Re: Re-6: Fw: Re-4: [direwolf] Reporting to aprs-is shows no digipeaters?
Some documentation can be found here.
Dire Wolf is mentioned as being used as the decoder for packet radio.??
It is not clear whether openwebrx has its own IGate implementation or uses the one built into Dire Wolf.? That is the first question that needs to be answered.
If the Dire Wolf IGate is being used, there might be a filter in the configuration file.
If openwebrx has has its own IGate implementation, it might report only moving objects.

1. I mean reporting to APRS-IS, I-Gate only.
?
before
uiview32, now direwolf with OpenWebRX.
?
OpenWebRX
is a web-based SDR?receiver?uses direwolf to decode APRS. -> ???

As
far as I know, OpenWebRX writes WAV files to decode them with direwolf. but
don't pin me down.

Do you mean:
1. Report _from_ your station _to_ APRS-IS, or
2. Report _from_ APRS-IS to your Internet client?
Where "your station" is UIView32 or Direwolf.
I know from experience that I-gate software varies in how long they take
to get a packet from the radio to the Internet. My own APRS program YAAC is
known to be a very slow I-gate, but I optimized it for fast reporting to the
local user versus fast pushing to the APRS-IS.
What exactly is openwebrx? Is this being placed between Direwolf and your
Internet connection, rather than letting Direwolf send directly to the
APRS-IS?

Hi Andrew,
?
but why does the station reports?with uiview-32 sucessful, but with

Alone because of the running
time?
?

confused
?
?
Uh, are we back with the misunderstanding and false assumption that
APRS-IS can be used for propagation analysis?
Remember, the APRS-IS _always_ discards all but the first-received (by
the APRS-IS backbone) copy of any given packet. So, if multiple I-gates hear
the same packet, only the _earliest_ I-gate's copy of the packet will get
through to APRS-IS receiving clients. Period. You can't make the APRS-IS
send duplicate packets from a slow I-gate.
Please keep this in mind when designing your APRS-IS client.
Andrew, KA2DDO
But the received traffic can be seen in the screenshot of the
console in the previous post?
?
?
I
don't know what to say here other than aprs.fi is not showing any real
heard traffic from your station.? I would assume this is a levels
issue with your SDR or an I/O issue between the SDR software -->
Direwolf.? In the terminal window that has Direwolf running, you
should be seeing decoded packets from all of the packets stations on
frequency.? If you're not seeing decodes, this again points back to a
form of "audio level issues".?

[0L] KR5LM-14>APX219,WIDE2-2:=2948.47N/09533.42Wx
What does it mean?
You can use the decode_aprs utility, included with direwolf, to interpret the meaning. Example: echo 'KR5LM-14>APX219,WIDE2-2:=2948.47N/09533.42Wx' | decode_aprs Position, xAPRS (Unix), Xastir N 29 48.4700, W 095 33.4200 That is a position report, created by the Xastir application. 73, John WB2OSZ

Re: Device issues on running direwolf v1.6
One problem may that you are not using plain ASCII double-quotes (Unicode character "). Note that your config file text below shows Unicode characters “ (left-leaning quote) and ” (right-leaning quote) instead, which Direwolf
probably doesn't understand.
It is generally a _very_ bad idea to use a fancy word processor (such as Microsoft Word) to edit a program's configuration file, as the word processor is more interested in making your text "pretty" and typographically correct than in being
syntactically correct for the consuming software. Use a "stupid" editor like vi, which will put what you type, with no extra decorations, formatting, etc.
Also, the only sound interfaces Direwolf detected, according to your report, are the native iMac sound ports. Are you really intending to use the Mac built-in mike and speaker? It doesn't look like you've connected your radio at all.

HI David and thanks for responding.?
The thing is I added the '-' stuff as an additional test, which we now know failed.

Re: Device issues on running direwolf v1.6
I didn¡¯t have a spacing problem but I did have a quoting problem combined with a syntax problem.? I can now tell the world at least the macOS 13+ world that to configure a iMic you have at least two options, see below, both work, maybe others.
ADEVICE "iMic USB audio system¡± Or ADEVICE0 "iMic USB audio system:0,0¡±
The things to notice is the quotes, wish I had David working with a couple weeks ago, but pointing me at that discussion put me on to this solution.? Thank you David.

Hello Keith,
Your issue stems from the "-" (dash) character on the
command line just after the timestamp parameter.?
Please see the Direwolf User Guide section 9.1.4 (
) on how the configuration of your sound card should
be done within the direwolf.conf file for OSX.? It's
critical that you have the sound card either properly
named within double quotes or using the numbering
scheme.? You should be able to see either approach by
just running direwolf from the command line and the
startup text should give you a full list of possible
devices.

OSX and Linux on Raspberry Pi are entirely different
operating systems.? As such, they will have different
configuration for the sound device.
Ps.? You don't have any PTT configured in your
direwolf.conf.? This means you won't be able to
transmit unless you're thinking of using VOX.? If so,

OSX and Linux on Raspberry Pi are entirely different operating
systems.? As such, they will have different configuration for the
sound device.
Ps.? You don't have any PTT configured in your direwolf.conf.?
This means you won't be able to transmit unless you're thinking of
using VOX.? If so, please see Section 9.2.13.1 of the DIrewolf
User Guide where it STRONGLY recommends not to do this.? YOU will
encounter unsolvable problems.
