MT-4D RPIM Long Shot
I picked up some MT-4D modules for a project.? But coming up with the Radio Programming Interface Module is proving a bit harder.? I have scoured the files and messages here and found reference to using a Motorola RIB?? Has anyone tried this?? According to Fred's message the only Pins used on the DB9<>RJ45 cable that connects the module to the RPIM are Pins 1, 7 &8.? Pin one is labled as LH_DATA.? Pin 7 is +8.8VDC to teh RPIM and Pin8 is SB9600_Busy.? ? I am assuming?the programming speed is 9600KBPS?? When I look at the block diagram I see LH_DATA and SB900_Busy are bidriectional?? any ideas of logic levels.? I am trying to figure out is I can make and interface to a motorola RIB, and that would work?
Oh and last bit anyone have later version software for these.? I have an early version. Thank you Jim |
开云体育Oh man, I worked on this every which way possible before finally just ordering a programming module. I have lots of info including pictures of the circuit boards if you want to try, but it was a no win for me. Let me know if I can help.?Matt AL7M , if iTypo, iApologize On Dec 21, 2023, at 10:03 PM, James Kossow <jim.kossow@...> wrote:

开云体育Also, if you just want some modules programmed you can mail them to me and I can take care of it, others as well likely.Matt , if iTypo, iApologize On Dec 21, 2023, at 10:03 PM, James Kossow <jim.kossow@...> wrote:

开云体育Just FYI I was able to find a nib Daniels rib at Niles communications in flagstaff Arizona. It took awhile for them to find one but they eventually did after several calls. I think it was $250 plus shipping.?Matt AL7M , if iTypo, iApologize On Dec 21, 2023, at 10:03 PM, James Kossow <jim.kossow@...> wrote:

开云体育Bruce that would be great. Did he make a cable that interfaced to a Motorola RIB? ?Yeah, I have a collection of stuff. Mostly MT-3 stuff.? TNX jim.? On Dec 22, 2023, at 6:12?AM, Bruce Cheshier via groups.io <pid@...> wrote:

开云体育I’ll take a look and see what I have in software. ?I received mine from Daniels/Codan long after the modules had been discontinued so I’m guessing it was the final version. Interestingly, I once saw something on the FCC type certification site — a copy of a manual — that referenced using Motorola CPS (I think for the XTS3000) for programming). ?Presumably, this was before Daniels developed its own software. I found this info in the manual at:
2.3 Transmitter Programming using Motorola Radio Service Software Daniels’ Radio Programming Software package is not yet ready to program the transmitter module. Therefore, it is recommended that Motorola’s Radio Service Software (RSS) and Radio Interface Box (RIB) be used in conjunction with a Daniels Radio Programming Cable to program the transmitter modules. For instructions on how to use the RSS, consult Motorola’s Astro Portable / Mobile Radio Software User’s Guide. The MT-4 Base receiver is programmed as if it were an Astro Portable radio. Fred Bray, KE6CD |
The final distribution of the RSS for the 4D and 4R modules included a separate version for each type.
As to the 4E modules, the early ones use a different RSS than the later ones.? To upgrade the early 4E modules requires a trip to Daniels/Codan.? When I checked a few years ago, I found that it wasn't cost effective. The the expense may well arise from a board replacement and the complete realignment that is included. KE6CD |
开云体育Thank you to Fred I was able to get copies of the software, a couple versions anyway.? I built an interface cable between my Motorola RIB and the MT-4R modules.? However when I try and read the modules I get an Warning ID Error? invalid reply message.? I tried 4800. 9600 and 57600 kbps setting.? The Data LED on the RIB flashes when trying to read.? A couple of the modules are marked 3.3 or 3.7, I am assuming this is the firmware revision.? Does anyone have any suggestions?? The modules are MT-4R. ? I hope you all found lots of radio trinkets under the tree. ? Jim ? Sent from From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Bruce Cheshier via groups.io

I remember hearing that the software for the MT 4R and MT-4D modules is different and that you can damage one or the other by trying to program with the wrong software. ? ? I will see if I can find the notes I have about that or maybe someone on this knows? ? |
开云体育Mike. I am working on an aftermarket RPIM. I have one working on perf board I have used with some D models I have. Started the PCB artwork to have some made. When I get back from camping next week I need to get serious about this. ?Probable going to go with thru hole components first round. DB 9 for the serialSide and an RJ-45 jack for the radio side. Pins 1 and 8 won’t be connected.? Later Jim.? On Jul 16, 2024, at 7:28?AM, Michal Smialowski VE7SML <mooksmd@...> wrote:

开云体育I have a MT-4R programming module that I can loan for programming or reverse engineering. Alternatively if you send me modules I can program and send back.?Matt AL7M , if iTypo, iApologize On Jul 16, 2024, at 7:17 PM, James Kossow <jim.kossow@...> wrote:

That's generous offer. I am waiting to hear back from Codan/Zetron to see if they still sell the RPIM..
If they don't , I may take you up on your offer. Where about are you located ?
tnx
Mike
?
PS Before I purchase any MT-4R modules, do you know for sure whether they can be programmed to following frequencies:
?
VR-4R-150-000? to 148.750 mhz
VT-4R-160-800? to 143.820 mhz
(SAR frequencies)
?
tnx Mike VE7SML |
