No swapping modules. Just program and confirm it meets specs. Front end realignment will be necessary?

Jim.?

Yes they can. Open up a fresh file build your data and write to the module. I did some 4D earlier this year.?

Can the MT-4 modules be forced out of band?
From what I can tell there are two bands:

132- 150 mhz
150- 174 mhz

Can they be forced up or down as the case may be, into the
144-148 range?
tnx

Re: MT-4E simulcast notes

You should be able to sum the PL with your transmit audio input into the wideband audio input of the radio if it has one.

Try reaching out to Ed O'Connor at Simulcast Solutions with your question, he might have some information.

I can think of a lot better radios for use in simulcast unless power consumption is an issue. I don't know if the Daniels gear is capable of it or not.

I assume the radios have an external frequency reference input.

MT-4E simulcast notes

I was hoping someone here might have some application notes about using the MT-4E modules in simulcast systems.? I am working on a two site project that will be voted simulcast.? Using SpectraCom 8195-14 GPSDO with PL generation (1118) for PL and 10 MHz ref.? JPS Voter and UHF backhaul between sites.? Convex Audio delay for adjusting audio timing.??

I was going through the SR-39 subrack manual and saw for Subtone I/P (C22 on the accessory connector) for the MT-4 is Secure/Clear Input for the MT-3 it is Subtone I/P.

Looking for some insight here.? I want the system to transmit PL.

TNX Jim?

Re: UR-3 receiver audio persists with ON/OFF switch off

Thanks for the suggestions... yes I have an extender card.
I moved the UR-3 from the B side of the rack and put it in the A side of the rack.
ON/OFF worked fine...
Found the problem quickly. I had wired a mute line on the back plane for muting UR-3
when UT-3 was active. The UT-3 PTT line was pulled high by a 100K resistor and connected
to the audio mute line ( active LO). I had tried a 10K resistor but it didn't draw the mute line
LO enough. I then tried the 100K resistor and it muted fine .
I disconnected the 100K resister and UR-3 ON/OFF switch line worked fine.
So I then tried a 33K resistor and it muted fine AND the ON/OFF switch worked fine.
Not quite sure how the 100K resistor stopped the ON/OFF of the audio but hey, the problem
is fixed.
tnx for the help

Re: UR-3 receiver audio persists with ON/OFF switch off

Looking at the schematic, it appears that the power switch controls the 9.5 volt line and there doesn't seem to be a jumper to defeat it.? However, other incoming voltages may not be switched.

More information might be helpful to narrow down whether it is a module issue or a subrack issue.? For example:

1.? Have the symptoms just developed or is this a receiver module that you are using for the first time?? If it's new to you, my guess is that a prior owner modified it in some fashion.

2. Have you tried the receiver in a different slot in the sub-rack to see whether it behaves in the same fashion?

3.? Do you have another receiver that you can substitute to see whether it behaves the same way?

Do you have -- or can you make -- a test cable or extender board so that you can open and test the module outside of the rack?

UR-3 receiver audio persists with ON/OFF switch off

Something that I have encountered before. When I turn off the front switch on the UR-3 I still get audio
coming out of the system monitor speaker and it still triggers the drop Tx.
I checked the switch itself and it seems to be switching normally.
I looked at the jumper list and nothing seemed to apply to this scenario.
Any ideas?

Re: Need a UHF Transmit and recieve MT4 and a 16 channel controller MT4

If I recall correctly, the BCD switch Codan/Daniels used for channel selection in the AC-3e,? CI-BC-4E, and CI-RC-4L is from the Grayhill 26AS22-01-1-16 series.? In order to get a more exact part number, I would need to pull and open a module. Perhaps I can do this by the weekend but no promises.

It appears that NOS versions of this switch -- that should work fine -- can be found on eBay for about $15 to $20, including shipping.? The usual places, such a Mouser and Digikey also carry these switches. You only need modest soldering skills to add the necessary leads, although switches with leads attached seem to be available on eBay for about $40.? When buying surplus switches, be sure that you get regular BCD encoding instead compliment or Gray encoding.

Codan may offer a kit that includes the switch with leads attached and perhaps a matching knob.? However, that is a more expensive option.?

Re: Need a UHF Transmit and recieve MT4 and a 16 channel controller MT4

If you are upgrading an existing MT-3 system, there are a few potential quirks you may encounter.

In MT-3 systems, there are typically one or more PL tone boards in the AC-3e.? This is not needed with the MT-4 as the tones are programmed in the RSS. Conflicts can occur if PL is active in both the MT-4 and the AC-3e, so you may want to remove or disable now unneeded the tone boards. This may be particularly important to avoid operator error depending upon who is using the repeater.

In MT-4e systems where the RX and TX modules are connected via the RJ-45 jacks, the receiver will not boot properly unless the transmitter is powered up.? Powering up both modules simultaneously also works.

MT-4e systems can use normal shielded Cat 5 or 6 RJ-45 cables to connect modules.? The earlier MT-4R or 4D modules must use six conductor cables because the outer two pins are used for programming. The cables Codan sells are six conductors and will work with either version but you can fabricate your own.

Re: older MT3 TX schematic needed

Ok, then will need the full number for the audio processor and the main board.

Mike,
Thank you for the reply. I was originally looking for the schematic for the main board however, after thinking about it and after writing the post, I could use the schematic or manual for the audio processor as well. I’m looking at just doing direct mod for the APRs transmitaudio.

TNX Jim.?

I need the full number for the board ie 43-911916 or whatever you have.
My experience with the MT-3 that you need the manual for the exact board no.
or you will have difficulty in getting it to work properly. The biggest issue I usually
have is getting to pass the audio. I try and find the exact manual then set the default jumpers
and that usually works well.

Re: Need a UHF Transmit and recieve MT4 and a 16 channel controller MT4

I'm not sure that I understand your reference to the 16 channel controller. Do you just need to be able to change the channels on a pair of MT4 transmit and receive modules?? If so, you can use the AC-3E audio module and add the channel switches.? You can use two switches if you want to select the transmit and receive channels independently or one if you want to gang them in pairs.? As I recall, Daniels used Grayhill 16 position BCD rotary switches.

It doesn't matter whether you are routing analog audio through the AC-3E or using the RJ-45 jacks on the MT4 front panel.

Hope this helps.
