I received this from Jim <jmootz@...>, "Shirley has ovarian cancer and it has metastasized in the abdomen and lymph nodes. She has chosen no treatment and to live out her life as she has lived for 84 years. They have given her 2 months, so no more dancing for the Mootz’s. Don’t know if AZ is in the cards for Jim.

You may share with dancing friends; however, since our dancing declined the last couple of years, few remain after our 20 years on the floor.

This year's Big Band Weekend will be taking place at Seven Hills School (1311 Overbrook Road) in Richmond's historic Northside.

That's our latest Big Band Weekend video above and we hope you'll check it out. We've got three incredible Big Bands performing for you over the weekend of June 2 and 3, 2023. Sharing the stage on June 2 will be Glen Boswick And The Sound Of Swing along with Joe Enroughty And His Royal Virginians. Swingin' in from Warrenton, Virginia on June 3, we've got the Silver Tones Swing Band complete with vocalists Gene Bates, Wendy Marie, and the Silver Belles Vocal Trio. Where else can you go dancing to three of Virginia's most popular Big Bands? This is a weekend like no other. And we want you to be a part of it. Make sure you tell your friends and family to join you for the weekend.

Scott Michaels, host of the syndicated Big Band radio program "In The Mood With Scott Michaels," will be our guest EMCEE for both evenings.

Gwendolyn Glenn will be teaching a FREE dance lesson each evening beginning at 6:30 PM.

4th Annual Big Band Weekend - June 2nd & 3rd, 2023

We're very excited to announce that our 2023 RVA Big Band Weekend, in tribute to Richmond radio legend Floyd Henderson, will be taking place over the weekend of June 2nd and 3rd, 2023. The location for this year's event will be "The Great Hall," located within the campus of Seven Hills Boys School on Overbrook Road in Richmond's historic Northside. With ample parking and easy access to the interstate and several hotels, we're very excited about this year's location.

And now for the best news of all. This year we will have three Big Bands performing for your dancing and listening pleasure.

Joe Enroughty & Glen Boswick

On Friday, June 2nd, 2023, Glen Boswick And The Sound Of Swing along with Joe Enroughty And His Royal Virginians will be sharing the stage for an evening of fabulous Big Band dance music. Four fantastic vocalists will be on hand to croon some of your favorite tunes. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Dinner is served at 6:00 PM. A FREE dance lesson with Gwendolyn Glenn will take place at 6:30 PM. The two bands perform from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

On Saturday, June 3rd, 2023, The Silver Tones Swing Band Featuring Vocalist Gene Bates And The Silver Belles Vocal Trio will take the stage to perform for your dancing pleasure. The Silver Tones hail from Warrenton, Virginia and have a large following in the Northern Virginia area. We are so very excited to have this swingin' Big Band as part of this year's event. Doors open at 5:30 PM. Dinner is served at 6:00 PM. A FREE dance lesson with Gwendolyn Glenn will take place at 6:30 PM. The band performs from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM.

Scott Michaels

Scott Michaels, host of the syndicated Big Band radio program "In The Mood With Scott Michaels," will be on hand for both evenings to emcee our weekend just as he did last year. We hope to record both evenings and possibly broadcast them "LIVE" on the radio.

Gwendolyn Glenn and her "Dance In Class" performance team will be providing dance demonstrations each evening. Gwendolyn will also be teaching a FREE dance lesson each evening from 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM.

Obituary for Jean Violet Macie:

Macie, Jean Violet: At Lookout Ridge Retirement Home in Fonthill on November 9, 2022. Jean Macie (nee Wells/Woloszczak) in her 91st year. She will be forever cherished and sadly missed by her loving family and many wonderful friends.

She was born on May 1, 1931 in Toronto, Ontario the only child of her parents Wladyslaw (Walter) Woloszczak (Wells) and Teckla (Violet) (nee Celejewski). Predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Louis S. Macie in 1993 and her parents. She is survived by her daughter Cynthia (Cindy) Macie and son-in-law Ross Thomas of Coquitlam B.C. and her son Alan and daughter-in-law Dr. Christine Macie (nee Greco) of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario. She is also survived by her grandson Craig Thomas of Port Coquitlam B.C.; granddaughter Alexandra Thomas and her partner Scott Jones of Fremantle, Australia; and her great-grandchildren Amy and Blake Jones.

Jean graduated from the University of Toronto’s Faculty of Pharmacy in 1953 with a B.Sc.Phm. She went on to help start up the pharmacy department at the new Toronto Northwestern General Hospital. Over her 55-year career as a pharmacist, she worked in several retail and hospital settings including Welland County General Hospital, Laing’s Pharmacy, Big V Pharmacy and Shoppers Drug Mart all in Fonthill, to name just a few.

A regular bridge player, she was active in local chapters of the Canadian Red Cross, the Welland University Women’s Club, the Pelham Hospital Auxiliary, the Welland-Port Colborne Concert Association, Welland Rotary Anns as well as the University of Toronto Polish Students Association and the Marie Curie Sklodowska Association.

Music was always a part of her life. She played both the piano and the accordion and started performing on stage when still a child. She loved to dance, especially to big band and polka music. She travelled extensively in the later stages of her life until she was no longer able.

Special thanks to the staff at Lookout Ridge Retirement Home and Rose Hill Lane for their wonderful care, compassionate and kindness. As per Jean's wishes, a cremation has taken place and a ‘Celebration Of Life�� will be held in the new year.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.

I had the pleasure to have gone on many dance cruises with Jean and visited with her in Canada after she could no longer cruise.
She is missed.

Here is the obituary for another wonderful person and great musician, Theresa A. Schneider Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information (ueckerwitt.com) who died yesterday. Many of you will remember when she played the piano for Howard Schneider and his Jan Garber Orchestra. A few years ago she was inducted into the Wisconsin Polka Hall of Fame.

Our condolences go out to Phyllis, Howie and the rest of their family.
