Mona Brandt is our instructor. The dates are Sunday July 14 and 21. Admission is $20. We will likely review basic foxtrot, waltz and beginning rumba.?

Diana Burns notified me that we lost another loyal Merrymaker this week, even though she hadn't been a member for some years

Angie Vincent passed in her sleep on June 24, 2024, she was 93.
Angie was a long time member of Merry Maker's and a great dancer.
For many years Mike & I would pick her up and bring her to the dances.
She is missed, but know she's now found lots of her friends!

The dance and jazz community lost a strong supporter when Howard Standage passed away on Wednesday June 12th. He was a long time member of both Merrymakers and Leisure World's Moonlight Serenade and the Jazz Festivals in Chandler.

Merrymakers Dances through April

Remember Merrymakers dances continue on Thursday nights at 7pm at Las Palmas Grand through the month of April. To give our members (and other dancers who are still here) the maximum opportunity to dance, we are holding the dances, even though we are losing money every week. Hope those of you still in the valley will take advantage of dancing to live music on the most beautiful dance floor in the East Valley

Good news for our out-of-Leisure World-guests, our Security Department has agreed to leave the exit gate out to Southern Avenue open until 10:00 so our guests don’t have to leave before the dance ends to get out that gate.? We’re ever so grateful

?

And last message I said our January dance was on the 23rd of January,?2025.? Should be Saturday the 25th of January.? All Saturdays next season.

?

ALSO, in response to inquiries I’ve had from new folks, ?the Rec 2 doors open at 5:00 p.m on dance night and the band starts playing at 5:30 p.m.?? Dinner is served about 6:30.? The band plays until 9:30 p.m.

?For GPS users or Uber, I understand the exact address of Rec 2 is 1548 Leisure World.??

The membership fee for the 2024/2025 season will be $305.00 per couple.? This is an increase of only $15 to hopefully cover the raise in price of our food and music.? $100/couple for guest couples? If you’re on board with us again next year, it would be great if you could pay at this dance.?

We had a good turnout for Mardi Gras and we hope to see many of you back on St. Patrick's Day.

YOURCHESTRA PLAYS FOR ACJS on MARCH 17


Although new to us, Yourchestra formed as a group in 2006.? Their leader, Richard Bogen, is a member of the Arizona Classic Jazz Society and has often played in the jam sets on either banjo, guitar or drums.? He is also a music therapist and teacher.? The band's repertoire is quite extensive and includes Early Jazz, Ragtime, 1920's, Tin Pan Alley, Jug Band, and New Orleans-style.? They are able to explore the overlapping connections between ragtime, blues, country, folk, and jazz during the 1920's and 1930's.? They have recently added a violin player to their ensemble.? Cheryl Thurston will be playing piano with them on March 17. ?


This event takes place on St. Patrick's Day, March 17th.? Although we can't offer you green beer, the hot music will make up for that.? The fun takes place 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., San Tan Ballroom, Crowne Plaza Phoenix-Chandler Golf Resort, One San Marcos Place, Chandler.? Theater and table seating are available. You can sit while listening to great music or take advantage of the two dance floors.? Cost is $15.? Pay at the door.? Final call for reserving your seat at the March 16, Moonlight Serenade last dance of the season.

Thank you to all who have responded to my previous requests for reservation information.? If you HAVE gotten a return response from me, you know I’ve received your reservation.? If you’ve NOT gotten a response from me, I didn’t hear from you.? We seem to be having trouble getting emails through.

?

If you have not responded with whether or not you are coming, please do so quickly.? The entrée choices this time are Chicken Piccata or Pork Osso Bucco.? Please choose one.

?

As you were advised at our last dance, our membership dues next year are $305.? That adds $3.75 to each of the 4 dances; hardly enough to cover our costs, but we are trying to keep the costs down.? Guest tickets will be raised to $100/couple.?

?

It would be great if you could bring next year’s dues to this last dance so we can start to work on next year’s budget through the long hot summer.?? Any leg up we get helps us prepare for the season.?

?

And again, thank you so much for the great support you’ve given this year and the enthusiasm you’ve all shown.? We’re looking forward to another successful season in 24/25.
