Cornelius Keck I can do a small update on my LED hacking. If needed,
I have an old talk from a few years ago about connecting a serial LCD
screen (2x20) to a RPi, Pico, whatever.

BTW, I have some fairy LEDs from Wally World that I think would work
better on your tiny tree.

Oh, that would be cool! Keeps others from having to suffer through yet another of my works-in-progress.

Those WW-LEDs, which ones? Online, or in store only?

ThX!!!

Both, but I got mine from the store on Exchange.
Five meters of 3 thin wires.? Similar to the strands?
that come from Pimoroni and their glass containers
although the wires aren't stuck together. WW's come
in a light blue box.? It's their "onn" brand.

so just wire it up data & ground to your fav microcontroller, feed from included power supply, party time?

LEDs look as if they have silicone snot on them, do they?

Actually, they already have a controller and a remote.
Project for tonight is to see how hard it is to remove
the controller.

Yes, but it's not gooey snot.? :)

Worst case, just a little snip and figuring out which wires are what.? There's only 3 so it can't be too hard.? ?

I got the little controller box open from the Wally World LED
string -- no glue so it just took a little prying.? The wires
to the LEDs were easy enough to unsolder and then connect to
my Pimoroni PlasmaStick 2040.? LEDs are clearly WS2812 compatible
thusly?the auto-start program on my PlasmaStick's 2040 ran the
LEDs just fine!!!? MORE BLINKENLIGHTS!

Let's see... the string is 5m (16+ feet) long with 50 RGB LEDs.
The copper colored wire is?+V.? Unlike the Pimoroni wired snot
balls, the center wire is Ground and the wire opposite the?+V
line is the WS2812 Data line.? Lots of fun for $9.88.? BTW,
Pimoroni's?similar?strand is normally $12.70 although it's
currently on sale for $8.89.? Still, these LED strings can be
had from your local Wally World (Wal-Mart) store or order?them
online with no waiting for an order to arrive from across the
pond. :)

I'll bring them with me on Saturday.

These lights:

appear to be on Clearance. Which explains why one can't find them in store any longer. They used to be $13 or so in between.

Looks as if there's some looting going to happen around here very soon.

Most WallyWorld stores ?simply don't have a shelf space for them any more?
but a store in?Maryland over Thanksgiving actually had a Clearance sticker
for them and I thought "Uh oh!"??Since most of the stores in this area
that I've visited?
don't have them, it's probably best?to try and?order
them thru the website, which I did.? Regular price was $14?and?change but
clearanced at $7+.?

Just ordered 4 to be here tomorrow. It'll be interesting to see if the order is filled.

I ordered three yesterday...arrived today.

Ron

Got em working yet?

Watch the ordering of the wires!
The copper colored wire is +5V.
The adjacent/middle wire is ground and the
final wire is data (WS2812 variety).

Note that these are different from the
strings from Pimoroni - the ones they use
with the glass stars, skulls, and blocks.
