Re: PCB Manufacturing

Cool, thx, appreciate it! Played some with both Kicad and Fritzing this
weekend. Took some getting used to, maybe I should read more
documentation, and/or watch the one or other tutorial, but where's the fun
in that?

Got some board layout, and if only to see how complicated it could get
setting up something trivial, and if it beats wiring setups manually.

Can relate to the relay-clicking noise satisfaction. Getting that here
when turning gear on using a WTI terminal server and remote operated power
strip. No network required, all serial, therefore out of band.

Sorry hear about them hiccups. Debugging analog electronics somehow has
some black magic flavor. Though back when I did something like that, like
way back when, it was transceivers with tubes in them, and some
interesting voltages. Getting zapped made you pay attention next time
round. They don't make them anymore like they used to.

Reflow oven.... SMD waiting to happen?

I¡¯ll know more by the end of the week. Not sure which package my EE is
using, although it is old school. We should be going to print by Tuesday
/ Wednesday. Which ever company he used for the prototype boards did a
very nice job.

Just getting over losing a week from a badly designed op-amp of an
analog signal ¨C unfortunately the EE didn¡¯t consider not having a
sensor (or a broken sensor), which allowed the signal to go up over 5v
on a 3v3 input on the mcp3008 SPI ADC.

Most of the last week working out why we had a capacitance on our board
such that after an hour it kept stopping just some pi 3b+s from starting
up. Went down so many rabbit holes. In the end it turned out to be
blown mcp3008 caused by the unrestrained opamp, the mcp3008 x 2 had
turned onto an onboard capacitor for the 3v3 line, and rpi wont boot if
the existing 3v3 line of a hat / board is higher than 0.5v.

And in other news our t962 reflow oven was turned on yesterday after we
put in a 50amp circuit. Looking forward to using it for prod in about 8
days or so.

Quite pleasing to hear 40 relays turn over in sequence during board
tests ?

Cheers,

Paul

Re: Pi-hole

I also run unbound and wireguard on the pihole machine.

My setup is a bit different, i.e. not so utterly standard. I'm running
both pi-hole and a squid proxy on the same Pi, the former for obvious
reasons, the latter because it allows for URL rewriting, amongst other
things.

I was no longer able to connect to FB after running this:

pi@pi2b08:~ $ pihole -b --wild facebook.com
[i] Adding (^|\.)facebook\.com$ to regex list...
[i] facebook.com does not exist in whitelist, no need to remove!

[i] Pi-hole blocking is enabled
[i] Using cached Event Horizon list...
[i] 140909 unique domains trapped in the Event Horizon
[i] Number of blacklisted domains: 1
[i] Number of regex filters: 6

[] Restarting DNS service
[] DNS service is running
[] Pi-hole blocking is Enabled
pi@pi2b08:~ $ sudo service squid restart
pi@pi2b08:~ $

The squid restart became necessary because IP addresses tend to get
cached; they don't change often, so it is not necessary to request an
address again as long as one holds on to the results of previous queries.
This may happen in multiple places, in the browser, on your client device
(the one talking to pi-hole), or, in my case, the squid proxy.

To verify access denial on Pi-Hole's server, run this:

pi@pi2b08:~ $ export | grep -i proxy
pi@pi2b08:~ $ nslookup www.facebook.com
Server: 127.0.0.1
Address: 127.0.0.1#53

Name: www.facebook.com
Address: 0.0.0.0

pi@pi2b08:~ $ wget
--2021-03-05 09:32:57--
Resolving www.facebook.com (www.facebook.com)... 0.0.0.0, ::
Connecting to www.facebook.com (www.facebook.com)|0.0.0.0|:443... failed:
Connection refused.
Connecting to www.facebook.com (www.facebook.com)|::|:443... failed:

pi@pi2b08:~ $

The first command checks if your account is set up to use a proxy via
environment variable, such as http_proxy or HTTP_PROXY.

Hope this helps.

It was indeed on the whitelist.

pihole -w -l does not list it. Interesting.

Thank you!

Could Facebook have gotten whitelisted?

Announcing Mecrisp-Stellaris 2.5.6 running on Raspberry Pico with RP2040

If you're into using programming languages for self-abuse then
here's a version of Forth that runs on the bare metal of the
RP2040 Pico.? This was announced Tuesday morning on the comp.lang.forth
news group (yeah, they're still around).

???

Download the 2.5.6 tar file per the article, extract, and go
into the rp2040-ra directory.? Download the .uf2 file just like
in Micropython.? Console is on the serial port so you'll need a
USB->TTL Serial adapter.

Have fun!
