Re: Raspberry Pi's new SD card

Numbers sure look interesting.

First test here might be, image a new RPI OS onto this and some other cards, see how long that takes, take it from there.

Of course MickeyCenter comes up out of stock...

Forth2020 Cafe 02/2025

And now for something entirely different. It's been an eternity since the last one (i.e. a whole month!!!), so it's time for the Forth-2020 Cafe.

I intend to show a tweak to speed up character I/O for the Novix simulator, together with updated firmware. Kinda like what the RTX-simulator does.

Any progress in any of the many projects out there? Presentations ain't a formal thing around here, just attend, show and tell.

As always, the link to attend is , or, should that fail, , or directly, this right here.

For those used to hybrid meetings, like DFWRPI's this past Saturday: this one is online only.

Doors open shortly before 0800CST, that's 1400UTC and 1500CET/MEZ:

Cornelius Keck is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

Raspberry Pi's on sale

If anyone is looking for either a RPi 4 or 5 Model B (most memory sizes) you might wanna check Microcenter.com as most are $10 off their
regular prices. Note that Microcenter doesn't seem to have the 16GB Model 5 listed
but Pishop.us (Delaware) and SparkFun (Colorado) had them in stock
the last time I checked.

Re: Raspberry Pi 5 Model B w/ 16GB of memory -- Available starting today 1/9/25

FWIW, SparkFun, up in Colorado, has the 16-GB model in stock!

Re: Raspberry Pi 5 Model B w/ 16GB of memory -- Available starting today 1/9/25

Think of how much faster your RPi would run with the entire operating system
stored in a RAM disk?? ?True, it would have but maybe 8-GB to run stuff but
if you do a lot of file I/O it'll be pretty swift!? Compiles would go a lot
faster!

[Members] DFWUUG meeting January 9, 2025 will be Zoom only

Heads up, all y'all:

Hi,

The January 9th DFWUUG meeting will be at 7 PM on Zoom only, due to the relatively high probability of inclement weather.

Our usual in-person meetings are at:
Improving has offices at 5445 Legacy Drive, Suite 100, Plano, TX 75024. That's about a mile southeast of the intersection of the Dallas Tollway and the Sam Rayburn Tollway (Texas 121).

The Dallas Ft. Worth UNIX User?s Group offers area UNIX users the opportunity to attend monthly meetings that include presentations from industry experts, small break-out sessions for special interest groups, and free pizza!

Our meetings are scheduled for the second Thursday of each month.

If you?d like to get involved and increase your networking opportunities, join us for our next meeting:

*Thursday, January 9, 2025, 7:00 PM*

*Presentation/Talk:
*

Cornelius Keck will demo file transfer between a Linux (or BSD) host and
the SDHC card on the far end of a Teensy.

"The Teensy is a complete USB-based microcontroller development system, in a very small footprint, capable of implementing?many types of projects. All programming is done via the USB port."? --

//

========================================================

The doors to the building are locked at 6 PM. Someone will be available to let you in after 6. There may be a note taped to the building doors with a cell phone number on it to call to get someone to let you in.

You can get to Improving early and wait in their lobby. Improving has wifi available for guests, should you bring a laptop. I have arrived there as early as 5 PM.

Happy New Year!!!

So, all y'all made it safely into 2025, nobody got hurt, so no injuries and/or property damage, perhaps not even a hangover? Very good. Because, in that case there's no excuse to skip this one, as always both in person at and online:
