OH! WHAT, IF WE ARE CHRIST’S

Words: Henry W. Baker
Music: Louis Bourgeois

Oh! what, if we are Christ’s,
Is earth?ly shame or loss?
Bright shall the crown of glo?ry be
When we have borne the cross.

Keen was the tri?al once,
Bitter the cup of woe,
When mar?tyred saints, bap?tized in blood,
Christ’s suf?fer?ings shared be?low:

Bright is their glo?ry now,
Boundless their joy ab?ove,
Where, on the bo?som of their God,
They rest in per?fect love.

Lord, may that grace be ours,
Like them in faith to bear
All that of sor?row, grief or pain
May be our por?tion here.

Enough if Thou at last
The word of bless?ing give,
And let us rest be?neath Thy feet,
Where saints and an?gels live.

All glo?ry, Lord, to Thee,
Whom Heav’n and earth adore;
To Fa?ther, Son, and Ho?ly Ghost,
One God for?ev?er?more.
