AND MUST I BE TO JUDGMENT BROUGHT

Words: Charles Wesley
Music: Christopher Tye?

And must I be to judg?ment brought,
And an?swer in that day,
For ev?ery vain and idle thought,
And ev?ery word I say?

Yes, ev?ery sec?ret of my heart,
Shall short?ly be made known,
And I re?ceive my just de?sert
For all that I have done.

How care?ful, then, ought I to live,
With what re?li?gious fear!
Who such a strict ac?count must give
For my be?hav?ior here.

Thou aw?ful Judge of quick and dead,
The watch?ful pow?er be?stow;
So shall I to my ways take heed,
To all I speak or do.

If now Thou stand?est at the door,
O let me feel Thee near,
And make my peace with God, be?fore
I at Thy bar ap?pear.

My peace Thou hast al?rea?dy made,
While hang?ing on the tree;
My sins He on Thy bo?dy laid,
And pun?ished them in Thee.

Ah! might I, Lord, the vir?tue prove
Of Thine aton?ing blood,
And know Thou ev?er liv?est above,
My ad?vo?cate with God.

Receive the an?swer of Thy pray?er,
The sense of sin for?giv¡¯n,
And fol?low Thee with lov?ing care,
And go in peace to Heav¡¯n.
