Field Day Set-Up

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Everyone.

???? This is the final I guess Set-UP & Station Location Plan.? I know probably things have changed some,
As far as what a certain Station may end up using for an antenna,
But try your best to work it all out with each-other. Below will be what the plans were the last that I knew of.

Verticals are self explanatory. Mount them as needed.
In the past with a 43 foot vertical, we used the park fence as it's radial system. It was quite effective!
How do we know it worked well? One year we were having a terrible time making any contacts. CQing got us Nothing.
S&P no-body would answer us. It was driving us crazy! The antenna worked Great in past years! 1 call & That's All!
Then we discovered that we never connected the ground from the antenna to the fence. Once we did and BOOM! it works.
Now of course don't make the same mistake that was made one year. Where multiple verticals all used the fence!

This was a DISASTER! I don't know how no-one thought this through! I mean, all verticals,
so same polarity, "No Isolation" then only like 10/20 feet apart from each-other!
Then the biggest like What were we thinking!? They are all connected to the same ground wire radial system!
They are literally electrically I mean dead short connected to each-other! OMG!? So Someone with a Vertical,
Please use this fence it works great! BUT only one station please!

???? Wire Antennas!
???? We have HUGE Trees! Many over 60 feet tall! USE THEM!!!!! Any wire antenna "Horizontally Polarized"
Height above ground is the most important factor of how the antenna performs. That's why we have towers!
There have been many Field Days where I have seen a station using one of these all the craze
end fed half wave antennas. That's OK. BUT. it was set up like an inverted VEE.? Also OK, BUT.....
The two ends are like only 3 or 4 feet above the ground. and the center apex is run through
the lowest branch of a 60 foot tall tree! It is lucky if it is 10 feet up!? Being sooo close to the ground
The ground absorption has to be extremely high. In addition what was not absorbed,
is primarily radiated straight up! NOT where it is needed.? So USE the Trees to their Maximum capability!

I won't be at the FD site on Friday. I'll be chasing bonus points on Friday.
Again attached is the list of possible bonus points we can earn! Can you do any of them? if so what one(s)?
Actually attached is the "Rules" in there is the Bonus points.

Anyway. At the next YTARC Club meeting I'll be dropping off with Matthew KD9DZT the Bow, Fiberglass Rod, and shooting line.
He will bring them to the FD site on Friday. Anyone here with Archery Experience? I'm far from "Experienced"
Yet this set up is extremely accurate! It has never failed me to send the rope exactly where i wanted it to go!
I'll give a brief demo on how to use it at the meeting.
Please anyone with a wire antenna PLEASE get your antennas as high up as possible!

Now this has the shooting line. but it will NOT be the rope to support your antennas.
Bring your rope as needed! This line will make the path for "Your" rope to be pulled up and over the tree top.
But it is NOT strong enough to support your antenna. Plus won't be enough line anyway.? So bring rope for your antennas!

Locations and stuff.

OK those that plan on setting up south of the park out in the open.
Gain access to that area via the property owners driveway (Easy of the FD Site) and path to that open field.
as seen here.

The rest of you. This is what we had planned a while ago.
Again things may have changed so so work together on it.

From Right to left,
W9PCK a vertical near his station and a wire up over the nearby tree and out across the field to the right for the far end anchor.

KB9JMJ,, Vertical so no issues

KD9YWQ? Dipole stretched between the two trees as seen by the RED line.

GOTA Station W9ET (WX4RAY) A vertical no issue, and a G5RV (RED LINE)
strung from Tall tree south of station out towards the Road where there is a tall park sign can tie off to.

KD9DZT? Not sure at this moment what Matthew plans on using. he may surprise us all. he he he

NQ9D? Vertical no issues. and being a tent he can set up south of the park
Or inside even in the clearing just north of the yellow dot (antenna location) and use the fence radial system.

Thoughts, Comments, Suggestions, etc.?

Have sent out several E-Mails and gotten no replies.

Some asking for help, but nothing.
