Graphic On Maps And APRS.FI

 

When I load the graphic in the MAPS window on D-Rats, it shows up correct (I had the Handicapped Icon, but changed it to a house). But, on aprs.fi -- it shows up as a car -- plus, it only shows up when I enter my callsign search. But, when I search for stations around Little Rock, Arkansas, I'm not there. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?? I don't? have or use an external GPS.

HI Daryl, for some strange reason, your beacons haven't been passing to APRS.fi for a couple of days. The setting in D-Rats is still (Handicapped: /)), even though it appears in APRS.fi as (Car: />).
?
Tips, clear the GPS Config setting in D-Rats, run the settings again and set the Elevation to 0.

? I tried everything you suggested...no dice. I really hate to have to uninstall and reinstall the entire D-Rats program from scratch.

? I really don't want to get an APRS app on the smartphone, as right now, I don't have the money to register it. I had done such with a similar app a good while back, but that app is no longer available, and I can't recall what it is (the new app names don't ring a bell).

? I checked my lat/lon data with a URL on that, but it still shows me as a car, and it updated 2 days ago. Why it works with D-Rats, and N
 

You say you changed Handicapped to to House, but it keeps broadcasting Handicapped (/)) APRS symbol.

I am not saying to uninstall D-Rats, but to reconfigure all in? the GPS Config section again.

As long as the configuration is not correct, there will be errors in the interpretation of the data in APRS.fi.

I am seeing similar on one of my stations and this is what I found.? In Preferences under the GPS Config go to the line that says GPS-A Symbol.? Under Table you should have a "/".? In the Symbol block, if you have the default ">" you will transmit a vehicle.? To transmit as a House replace it with "-" the minus sign.? If you place a "#" there you would get the Green Star with D in the center, which I use to designate the Ratflector.? See if that helps.

? The problem isn't getting the graphic on D-Rats in their MAPS -- that works fine. The problem is exporting the data to aprs.fi, and showing my station with the rest of the callsigns around the Little Rock area. I was using the GPS-A setting every 5 minutes on the ratflector I normally hang out on (in this case, yours, the St. Tammany one). I don't have an external GPS, and don't have an APRS app on my smartphone (I used to, but that app was discontinued). And, I'm not sure how to get the data to aprs.fi from here.

Patrick showed me how to run a program called APRX behind the StTammany Ratflector that picks up the GPS-A beacons from the stations on its port and sends the position report to APRS.??That is how you are getting on the map.??The other??that does it is the K3PRA repeater in Pennsylvania.??The Symbol for GPS-A is picked up from the GPS Config under Preferences.??If you have it set there to "/>¡± the ratflector reports you are in a car.??If it has ¡°/-¡° it reports that you are in a house.??If you hit the DPRS button, it will show you a whole list of icons to choose from.??There are 2 sets depending if you use a forward slash (/) or a backslash (\) in the first block.??The second block is the character that tells the program which icon to use.??When you mentioned it, I looked and my station that I use for chatting and doing the nets was also sending out the car until I went in and changed it.

Here is the line that APRX sent to the APRS system for you this morning:

Now here is the line it sends out for my regular client station:

And finally, here is the one it sends out to ID the ratflector:

Notice at the end of each one it has /A.??Just before the slash yours has a ), but my two have a - and a #.??The minus sign (-) is the DPRS symbol for House, and the (#) is the DPRS symbol for the Green Star with D for digital on it. The ) character tells it to send the Handicapped symbol.??If you leave it at the default, you would have a > character there designating the Red Car.??Just now, at 11:21 AM, APRS.FI is showing you with the Handicapped Symbol again.??I can¡¯t tell you what you were sending before because as I told you earlier, the Pi running the ratflector had its display corrupted and I had to go in, rebuild the OS image and rebuild the ratflector all over again yesterday and last night,??Hopefully it is back to running like it should this morning.
