DV Data over USB Repeated Transmit

My 7100 started acting strange with D-Rats (039 version). Over the USB connection for data when I transmit chat the radio repeatedly keys up. First transmission after changing a connection or something is usually normal...keys up, sends, shuts down. Subsequent chat keys up like 5 times and appears to keep sending the same thing. It did not do this awhile ago. The 7100 is not my normal D-Rats radio ( I use an 880H with the orange cable) so hard to say when this began....new version of D-Rats, some kind of windows update...not sure. My feeling (guess) is there is some kind of buffer trying to send again and again. I plugged an orange cable into the 7100 and it works exactly like my other radios....keys up, sends data, shuts down. A member of our Thursday D-Rats group is having the exact same issue with an Icom 9700 over USB. Otherwise I'd think it was just my computer. Any ideas? Anyone else see this? ONLY on the USB conection, and ONLY on D-Rats DV data...JS8Call, FLDigi....all that works perfect over USB.?

Since JS8Call and fldigi are working, and D-RATS is not, it sounds as if the USB connection is pointed to the internal sound card. You must change the configuration to of the USB connection to work with DV data. It is covered in the low speed data section of the Icom radio user manual

OK, I'll answer my own question. I spoke to Icom tech support. The guy I spoke to is extremely well-versed in D-Rats and DStar and is on the US Trust in Texas. Anyway, the USB connection will do this due to the way USB is set up on the computer. It sends out encapsulated packets. Apparently my radio has always done this, as will a 9700 or a 705 when using the USB cable for DV data. It does not do this with the sound card modes as this is not the same format. Using a pure serial cable in the 2.5mm data jack gets a pure serial data stream and does not have this issue, so the orange RT Systems cable works fine. I was assure the guy we have in our D-Rats group using USB and his new 705 is doing the same thing but just does not notice it. The data received on the other end is fine...just the radio keys up a few times to send data instead of just once as I am more used to.?

Mike, I saw your thread on the 7100. Maybe my set up is having similar?issues. How did you fix it? Did you just put RT cable in? Did you reconfigure the computer?

Use the orange cable. Change "connector" menu/USB/DATA 1 FUnction/Data1 Function to "DV Data". Once done, USB2 Function will flip to "off". Leave all else the same. DV Data will use the orange cable instead of USB. All other digital modes (sound card modes like FT8, FLDigi modes, WinLink) all work just like before. The only thing I know of that uses serial DV data is D-Rats.?
I have confirmed reports that D-Rats DV data over USB on the 7100, 9700 and 705 all do this multiple key-ups? when sending digital traffic (from actual users watching the radio). I can positively confirm that using the 2.5mm data jack and the orange cable "solves" this. I say "solves" because it DOES work over USB, just transmits on and off a few times.

Good info Mike. I have my 7100 set up and ready to test.

Anyone stumbling upon this thread.....if you are having issues with DV Data over USB or Bluetooth? Serial, try setting flow control I'm your comm port to XON XOFF instead of the default "none". Issues like radio appears connected but does not key up when you send chat. DRats works fine over Bluetooth, by the way. Make sure you are using DVData mode and not CI V like you do for the Android app.?

Good to know.

Thanks,
