Creating a 0.4.0 version?
Maurizio and all,
Are we ready to mark a 0.4.0 version of D-Rats? Next I think I would want to work on improving the configuration GUI. what I would have in mind is that for some settings like ratflector lists, forms, and mapping services to be able to select updates from online sources when D-Rats has access to the Internet. I also want to add options to the serial port dialog to allow testing and using support for DSR / CTS as options and allow optionally using the driver XON/XOFF protocol. I also want to look at if I can get D-Rats to be able to detect and interoperate with the Icom android application that just does text and pictures. Unfortunately I do not have a specification on how the picture sending/receiving works on that APP. 73, -John wb8tyw |
Hi John
I think you did an exceptional progress and off course version 0.4.0 should be issued as it seems quite stable and working for the tests done about the upcoming features off course you are free to invest your time in what you think it's best. from my perspective, as there are already a lot of internet chatting tools, I had always preferred to invest time and my few knowledge get in RF related features, considering this I think the most useful and interesting it's the part to interoperate with RS-MS1a. On this specific point I recall having done some tests when the app was issued and, If am not mistaken, the text messages (or a part) were shown in d-rats logging when "raw text" and "sniff" are enabled. considering that for time being there is still not a windows installer, I think the effort of having an online service for its' configurations it is marginal with respect to the installation and updates, so I would not prioritize that part (off course it would be nice to add somewhere a link to an "official"(which one?) site with the "most updated" config instructions, e.g. a ratflector list) on DSR / CTS i am not sure what that could bring. thanks maurizio Il giorno sab 4 mar 2023 alle ore 15:36 John E. On the down side (and n defense of John’s valuable time). you are asking for development of a feature set that requires a bunch of effort and is tied to one expensive purchase of proprietary software. I am not concerned with RS-MS1A being fit or not. Those who use it like it.
My concern is that D-Rats has become a non-platform-specific program used for EMCOM and net support by folks who do not use ICOM radios as well as those who do. It is open source on an open source friendly platform. ICOM friendly is just one of its attributes (unlike wfview for example which is a different approach to the same services offered by th ICOM proprietary software). I would think that John might want to learn just how many folk actually are using both D-rats and RS-MS1A before he spends any time working it into the rewrite and repair of the original software as he inherited it. I use both D-Rats and RS-MS1A (with ID5100 and ID51 not plus). I always thought that the missing chat between the two was a gap.? > tied to one expensive purchase of proprietary software. is RS-MS1A now priced? or are you referring to something else? maurizio - IZ2LXI Il giorno ven 22 set 2023 alle ore 03:53 Jack Spitznagel (KD4IZ) <kd4iz@...> ha scritto: On the down side (and n defense of John’s valuable time). you are asking for development of a feature set that requires a bunch of effort and is tied to one expensive purchase of proprietary software. Hi: Nice progress with D-Rats. Congratulations John, Maurizio and the other?developers. Regarding the next areas of improvement?/ development, here is my point of view.? Uniformity has its advantages but supporting RS-MS1A and the technology behind?it is a PLUS D-Rats could take advantage?of.? D-Rats have open the users base with the TNC support, but IF it could provide an additional service to D-Star radios owners, I don't see why not to take advantage of it.?? There are plenty of D-Star radios out there, most are ICOM. Also many of us already have the cable which is the thing that is 'pricey'.? Maybe create a priority list with features base on some criteria like:? ? 1)? General benefit across platforms?/ radios 2)? Complexity and estimate time to achieve 3) Increase of functionality (Android support?IMO fits here) 4) Security related,? 5) Ease of usage. Those numbers do not suggest order priority.? Also remember there are some Kenwood higher end handy that support D-Star.? Besides that, I would put priority on the control? D-Rats users should have to avoid?other users?connected to transfer files?to you.? In the group?someone provided an example of how that issue backfired on a video-conference (or kind of presentation) and the host was concerned by that 'exploit' risk.? ? Finally, IMO version numbering should be > 0.4.0 as there was a 0.4.1.? With the latest fixes I venture to suggest 0.4.5 or higher.? ? Thanks John!! and all developers! 73' Edfel KP4AJ On Fri, Sep 22, 2023 at 12:23?AM Maurizio Andreotti <maurizioandreottilc@...> wrote:

开云体育Maurizio, ? Total *Brainfog* on my part. I was thinking RS-BA1! I don’t use Android, but assume that the RS-MS1I will behave similarly. ? 73, Jack – KD4IZ ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Maurizio Andreotti
