Re: D-Rats via RF - Experience - Capabilities - Usage

HI:
Please? note the AIOC seems to don't have the TNC integrated!!???Not sure if it still should work with D-Rats, se back to step 1...From GitHub....

Future Work

  • Overmolded enclosure design (DIY using 3D-Printed mold and Resin/Hotglue)
  • Maybe integrate a TNC Modem with KISS interface? (I am not sure if that is worth the effort)
Sorry guys!

Hi:
Found also this which seems more affordable and fit for Handys.???
Deleted the link as I am not sure it will work with D-Rats....

Opinions?

Re: D-Rats via RF - Experience - Capabilities - Usage

Hi:
Well wonder if this could make it happen:???I have and old SignaLink also but not think have the cable and mod for my Kenwood TM-v71. Probably best and simplest way to test is with a Baofend.? ?Hope the hardware that work with WinLink / VARA combo also will work with D-Rats via RF.? Will take sometime until I report back but guess that is the way to do.

Re: D-Rats via RF - Experience - Capabilities - Usage

Hi Maurizio:
Thank you very much!? ?There are many D-Star capable radios out there but if D--Rats supports also other brands through TNC / modem it increase D-Rats possibilities!? It could be very useful if someone can test and document such connectivity via RF.? ?I supposed if there is a pdf document describing someone should have tested, I hope.?

Hi Edfel

I personally never used d-rats with radios without d-star support.

Anyhow D-Rats was added with kiss support in the past:

Not sure if anybody had a chance to?test it with recent versions.

would be interesting to have more info and report on experiences on?this.

thanks

Hi:
Just to be sure. I have set the 9700 and seems to be working.? As D-Rats states there is no longer a need for a D-Star radio, the question is which other 2M 70cm radios supports (or can be used) with D-Rats for packet communication??So I might coordinate with a fellow Hams at my county and test maybe in simplex 145.610, 145.670. The idea is not to depend on D-Star repeaters although anyway here there are nada D-Star repeaters.??

One of D-Rats KEY, and somehow rare, advantages is Interoperability (possibility of EMCOMM traffic via both RF + Network).??

Thanks again!!

I have a IC9700, but I guess is the same. I have to setup low speed.??

Re: D-Rats via RF - Experience - Capabilities - Usage

Edfel, one thing to watch out for when using RF, ID 5100's send Hi speed data, ID 880, ID 2820, ID 51 all use low speed, make certain to reset the 5100 to low speed if you are trying to send to one of these. MENU>DV SET>DV FAST DATA >FAST DATA>OFF.

Hi:
I strongly recommend you follow D-Rats GitHub!? If you can learn how to clone the repository and use in your platform, you will be using latest code with many fixes and enhancements.? ?Also you can browse Issues to follow progress and areas of improvement. Very pleased the repeater subsystem getting enhancements. Very positive about what next releases will bring into D-Rats!

Keep the excellent job!!??

Edfel,

I use the default 9600 baud for D-Rats. There are 4 digital simplex frequencies that are listed for D-Star. 145.600, 145.670. 441.000 and 445.670. You can use any simplex frequency that is designated for digital use as far as I know ( I don't know what the rules are in Puerto Rico ). Also, you may use any D-Star repeater for data. BTW, you can do voice and data at the same time, we have tested it and it works!

Hi Edfel,

?

I have a ¡°partial¡± answer for you. I don¡¯t think there is an ¡°easy¡± way to use the IC-900.

?

D-RATS uses the D-Star data modes (among others). If you have any of the D-Star radios (plus a D-Star repeater) around, then there is a ¡°slow¡± data channel along with the voice channel it is quite slow, but works for Chat. The 1.2GHz radio can be all digital and has reasonably fast speed ¨C don¡¯t remember exactly (maybe 4.8kbps in DV, ?128 kbps in DD mode???). DD mode is 1.2GHz only, available with the IC-9700 and the old ID-1 +/- the DD module for the 1.2GHz repeaters.

?

We have used a local D-Star repeater (W3DHS) for ACS/ARES/RACES exercises. You can use D-STAR simplex as well. There are suggested DV simplex frequencies for 144 and 440 MHz ¨C check the dstarinfo.com website.

?

I use 9600bd for the connection to both the IC-9700 and the IC-705. I configure to the appropriate COM port. It works for me. I usually use the internet mode so the radios do not stay on.

Hi:
Looking for feedback about D-Rats RF capabilities, usage.? So far have been testing the repeater - client from network connections. Planning to move now into the serial (RF) setup.? My radio is a ICOM IC900 Have several questions:

1- Which freqs are used for D-Rats ia RF?
2- Which speed can be expected and how such speed compares with Packet, VARA FM.??
3-? It is possible to run D-Rats via HF or low bands?

Sorry if any of those questions are basic or simple.

Thanks Glen,

Until the .org stops working again, which was why it got switched to .de
in the distant past.? :-)

The site appears to be using HTTPS.? It is msys2 that does not have the
current CA certificate in its trust bundle.? I suppose a ticket should
be opened for msys2 on that.

On Anti-X Linux (Debian based) the https: URLs work.

There is a D-Rats ticket for improving how this and other configuration
information can be more easily kept up to date on D-Rats that I really
want to get to, however other higher priority tickets are on the queue
right now.

On the three URLs for the thunderforest maps you need to remove the
"s" from the https: at the beginning of the URL. That site is not
using a secured server, so the added s causes the URL to fail.
HTTP:// is all that is needed there. Once you correct these

Edfel,

Go to icom.japan.com. Click on the firmware/software icon. Enter IC-9700 in the oval and it will bring up a list of firmware/software. Download and install the USB Driver file that is for multiple radios. It will install 2 Silicon Labs virtual comm ports. Important, you must have your radio connected to the computer with a USB cable in order for these ports to show up in your device manager! Usually, port "A" is the first one listed (lower number). You can check by bringing up device manager, double click on "Ports", then right click on the comm port you want to check. Select properties and then click on details. In the details window you need to change "Property" from "Device Description" to "Device instance path". At the end of the value it will show either an "A" or a "B". I hope this helps.
