Re: Ratflectors and keepalives.

Hi Ralph,
I don't have an answer for you about the clock, but I can help you with the second item.

How to cure Ratflector fatigue:

1. Open the Config window (ALT+P).
2. Go to Appearance and type \[QST\] on the Ignore RegEx line.
3. Go to Chat and clear the "Show status updates in chat" check box.
4. Click Save to close the Config window.
5. On the Chat tab, click Add Filter on the toolbar and type [QST], click OK.
6. Enjoy using D-RATS.

Hello All,

A while back I noticed that in the preferences the section that activated the UTC rather than
Local time would not function even when checked. Could there be a section of code missing?

Also is there any way to disable sounds when 'pings' are sent/received. Maybe also have
sound files other than the ones that come with the computer - for D-Rats.

Just a thought.

I have access to the source tree. Someone indicated a while back that they had a patch or fix for this.?If someone has a patch, send it to me and we can see about getting a new daily build pushed out. I have a few minor things I've tweaked as well, like adding support files to auto start d_rats-reflector as a service on Fedora Linux.

Is anyone working on getting this into the d-rats client and ratflector

My work-around for that is to send a QST containing a GPS report every ten minutes. It keeps your connection alive, keeps your callsign on the station list, and doesn't print in the chat screen. Please help reduce Ratflector pollution.

New Ratflector

I am pleased to announce that the Philadelphia Digital Radio Association (PDRA) now has a club Ratflector. It is co-located with the K3PDR repeater. The network address is k3pdr.dstargateway.org port 9000. We are also experimenting with RF access to this Ratflector. If you are in Eastern Montgomery County or Northeast Philadelphia, you can connect via D-STAR radio on 440.9375 simplex, or with a KISS TNC or AGWPE soundcard on 145.59 simplex. It has limited range, but improvements are coming. Our club net takes place on Monday nights at 8PM ET (0100 UTC Tuesdays) on the K3PDR B and C repeaters and REF020A. Net control also takes check-ins via D-RATS. All are welcome to join in. I hope to see you there.

Hello Everyone,

I've been recently chatting with Dan Smith and he has resumed service on his primary Ratflector:

?? ref.d-rats.com:9000

He did note that he did not resume the 9001 Ratflector as he saw little to zero usage on it.? As such, the Ratflector database found at:

? --> click on the "More" pulldown --> select "database", and then select "Ratflector List" should be updated.

I have not spoken with Dan directly, but through a third party.? It is my understanding that the ratflectors he had online will not be returning.? There are other things in the works as well which should be very positive for D-RATS.? Keep an ear out for more information soon.

Hello John,

Thanks for setting this up.? Do you know for a fact that Dan Smith won't be bringing his two Ratflectors back online?? If that's the case, if I can get Dan to make the change, maybe we can get one more revision posted on his site to remove his old ratflectors, add yours, and I think there is one more patch out there that Patrick recommends as well.

Re: Raspberry Pi Drats Problem

Here is the latest update. I now have the pi running the drats server and the ratflector can be reach from outside my network. I'm putting together a step by step instructions on how I did. I just have a few more things to add to the instructions before I release it.

I want to thank all of those that provided such great information.

I have two things left to complete.

1. Making sure the pi is set to the UTC time.

2. That when the pi restarts it launch both D-rats and D-rats server.

Thanks again

Hello Roger,

?

Update on my latest trial and errors to get my drats server up and running. I still can not get to the server from outside my home network. I running a Motorola SB6141 cable modem on xfinity. I have the router connected to my Amped Wireless router RTA15.

Usually most ISP provided routers are NOT "transparent" meaning "simple bridge".? Most are now NATing routers that require port forwarding to allow external traffic to directly reach internal devices.? I don't have a SB6141 but according to , it seems this IS a bridging device and there isn't any configuration to set.
It's also worth pointing out that some ISPs get custom firmware from the HW vendors so while these TimeWarner people get bridged modems, other users like say Comcast might get the "router" firmware.? It all depends unfortunately.

Just a heads up on the bridging side.. this is the simplest approach but it's becoming a rarer feature and once bridged, these hardware devices no longer provide any level of protection from the Internet (firewall, nat, etc).? As such, if any computers are directly connected to the SB6141, it's critical you have firewall software on that PC.

I spent a couple of hours chatting with xfinity support which was a total waste of time. They kept trying to help me get the port forwarding set on the?router. I kept trying to tell them that?I already had the router port forwarding set and that the problem appears to be the modem.

Well.. the issue was probably on the Amped Wireless box if your D-Rats computers is connected to it.? The Amped box needs the same port forward (tcp/9000) to be configured on it.. just like the Motorola (if it's running a routing/NAT firmware).? Follow this guide but substitute port 80 with port 9000:

??

There?are no user settings on the modem that can be changed. When you get to the modem, the only thing you can see is the current status and settings. You cant change any of the settings.?I may call tech support later today and see if I can get more answers. I may have to look at a different modem or just give up on the project.

No reason to give up... you're close.

Roger,

Out of curiosity, does your RTA15 WAN port show a public or private IP address.?

Is the 6141 from Xfinity or purchased elsewhere?

The main page on the modem should show menu items across the top of the page, including 'Configuration.' Maybe try a different browser to access the modem.?

Re: Raspberry Pi Drats Problem

Ok, if you are trying to connecton your own network you need to set up a connection using the internal address assigned to the pi, i.e. 192.168.0.6 or whatever is assigned to it.

If you are out on another network, i.e. at work then you need to use the IP same as everyone else.

Took me a bit to figure this one out myself.

What port are you trying to use? The modem will be "transparent" to the network except where the ISP does blocking on their end.

Every modem is different. Usually you need to go into Internet Explorer and type in the IP address of your modem. That should be in the modem instructions. Login and password, etc.....
Then you need to find in the settings something like port forwarding or NAT hosting.
Some modems have a security setting you must allow for outside access like allow server hosting.?
You have to forward port 9000 to your Pi static IP address.?
The "PC" you want to forward to is the IP address of your Pi.
The port is 9000

After that you only need to have your external IP address (just type "whats my IP" into google) to access your repeater from an outside line in DRATS.

Like I said, the hardest part about setting up a ratflector is how to set up your modem. Every modem is different.
