Re: RS-MS1A and D-Rats
I can never connect my id52a to RS-MS1A on Bluetooth. Very discouraging. Scott W3SGT On Sat, Sep 23, 2023, 6:02 PM John E. Malmberg <wb8tyw@...> wrote: The ticket for RS-MS1A protocol integration is: |
RS-MS1A and D-Rats
The ticket for RS-MS1A protocol integration is:
For RS-MS1A and D-Rats integration is that D-Rats needs to know the protocols used for RS-MS1A, and if there is a way to recognize the RS-MS1A frame. Currently the D-Rats protocols have not been completely mapped out, and we do not know anything yet about the RS-MS1A. I do not know if the D-Rats text and file transfer modes can be changes so that they can work with RS-MS1A frames. The serial port on Icom D-Star radios is also use for remote control and programming of the radios via programs like Icom provides or the open source . Newer Icom radios provide a bluetooth serial port. What ever is used for RS-MS1A has to block the binary codes that put the radio in remote control mode from being sent. D-rats uses y-encoded transmissions to avoid those codes, and then uses a frame structure with binary codes in it. Getting D-Rats to receive text and pictures from RS-MS1A should not be too hard if we get the RS-MS1A protocols worked out. Items needed to be known about RS-MS1A: 1. Does it use any frame format, such as headers or checksums. 2. How does it determine a picture sending from a text sending. 3. How does it do the encoding to avoid sending radio control commands to the radio. Getting D-Rats to be able to send text and pictures to RS-MS1A based on what I have read on this mailing list would require changing the D-Rats protocols that are sent, and those newer packets would only be readable on that newer version of D-Rats. There are several enhancement code cleanup tickets that are ahead of any work by me on RS-MS1A. |
E-mail threading and Archives (Was: [d-rats] Creating a 0.4.0 version?)
A point of information for E-mail threads.
There is a long standing convention that if you are changing the topic of an e-mail thread, then the person changing the topic should change the subject with the old topic in parenthesis as above. When replying to such a thread, the people replying are supposed to remove the text in the parenthesis including the parenthesis. Most e-mail clients and e-mail archives like the one groups.io uses understand this and when set in threaded mode this allows the reader to follow threads properly. Threads are generally not grouped by the subject text. Threads are grouped by a unique message ID that was generated by the first message in the thread. So even changing the title may not change the thread, and may cause your messages to be harder to find. Which means if you are starting a new topic, you should start a new message, instead of replying to an existing message. This will keep the users who have messages sorted by threads and any public e-mail archive properly organized and easy to look up messages in. 73, -John wb8tyw |

Re: Creating a 0.4.0 version?
Hi: Nice progress with D-Rats. Congratulations John, Maurizio and the other?developers. Regarding the next areas of improvement?/ development, here is my point of view.? Uniformity has its advantages but supporting RS-MS1A and the technology behind?it is a PLUS D-Rats could take advantage?of.? D-Rats have open the users base with the TNC support, but IF it could provide an additional service to D-Star radios owners, I don't see why not to take advantage of it.?? There are plenty of D-Star radios out there, most are ICOM. Also many of us already have the cable which is the thing that is 'pricey'.? Maybe create a priority list with features base on some criteria like:? ? 1)? General benefit across platforms?/ radios 2)? Complexity and estimate time to achieve 3) Increase of functionality (Android support?IMO fits here) 4) Security related,? 5) Ease of usage. Those numbers do not suggest order priority.? Also remember there are some Kenwood higher end handy that support D-Star.? Besides that, I would put priority on the control? D-Rats users should have to avoid?other users?connected to transfer files?to you.? In the group?someone provided an example of how that issue backfired on a video-conference (or kind of presentation) and the host was concerned by that 'exploit' risk.? ? Finally, IMO version numbering should be > 0.4.0 as there was a 0.4.1.? With the latest fixes I venture to suggest 0.4.5 or higher.? ? Thanks John!! and all developers! 73' Edfel KP4AJ On Fri, Sep 22, 2023 at 12:23?AM Maurizio Andreotti <maurizioandreottilc@...> wrote:

My concern is that D-Rats has become a non-platform-specific program used for EMCOM and net support by folks who do not use ICOM radios as well as those who do. It is open source on an open source friendly platform. ICOM friendly is just one of its attributes (unlike wfview for example which is a different approach to the same services offered by th ICOM proprietary software). I would think that John might want to learn just how many folk actually are using both D-rats and RS-MS1A before he spends any time working it into the rewrite and repair of the original software as he inherited it. Re: D-Rats for Windows 10 Download.
The HAMPi is for use with Raspberry Pis. You would type in the original first search box d-rats Windows 10. I am on my way to dentist and shopping. When I get back I will see if I can find it. I have windows on the main computer and the other version on my pi with the HAMPi suite. Virginia On Tue, Sep 19, 2023, 10:38 PM KC9SIO <kc9sio@...> wrote: Would that be HamPi Ms. Virginia? |

KB8PMY/N8MFN Back online!
Good morning all, I just wanted to reach out and let everyone know that my ratflector is back online. It still has direct access to my BBS DXCLUSTER and node access. I retired from my job at U-Haul after 15 years. I have more time to work on these projects now. You can kindly find my ratflector at either or n8mfn.club port 9000 gps port 9500. To access the NODE/BBS/DXCLUSTER Once logged in to the reflector. Click on your private chat button at the top. Name it NODE. Can not be named anything else or it will not work. at the bottom you then should see " @NODE " tab. Tap on that and you have full bbs access. Any questions please let me know! Thanks, Ryan (KB8PMY) |

Re: D-Rats for Windows 10 Download.
Here is my dilemma! I had 0.3.9 D-Rats down loaded on windows 10 of my main computer. I made a change to the maps file in the top window. I replaced users with my name. Had to delete D-rats and tried to?re-install?but fault D-Rats?has encountered an error keeps coming up that and?when I hit Debug it reads "windows error The system cannot?find the path specified: C\\Users\\Scotty\\AppData\\Roaming\\D-RATS-EV\\maps" keeps coming up. I delete all d-rat files on my computer but that change keeps coming up. I can download it on laptop?computer but not on my main computer. Seems to me it has to be a file in the main computer that keeps it from loading. Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can stop pulling my hair out in which I don't have much left. Scotty? 开云体育Follow up – Do you have One Drive active and is it backing up your Desktop folder? If so, disable it in One Drive settings. Make sure you have a “D-RATS Shared” folder on your local desktop? If not, create it. It should now start normally and allow you to configure it. ? Go into your preference setting for “Radio” and uncheck the original “net:d-rats.com:9000” entry – that server no longer exists. Add the ones you need like: StTammany.ratflector.com:9000 d-rats.wa7dre.org:9000 alabama.ratflector.org:9000 etc And check them. ? Jack – KD4IZ ?
