A YouTube Video on using D-Rats for Emcomm has been posted
I participated in a YouTube live stream the other day on Using D-Rats for Emcomm with Steve Goodgame of K5ATA Ham Radio using a PowerPoint put together by John Davis WB4QDX, who is with Georgia ARES and used it to teach members participating in Georgia Auxcomm.? You can check it out here:
? Leave a question in the video's comment section if you need help with some aspect of D-Rats and we will try to get it answered, or you can comment here.? If Steve gets good feedback on the topic, he may invite me or another person familiar with D-Rats to go over the full set up.? All of us here know that just putting it on the computer and running it for the first time is just the starting gun on getting the program to a fully functional state.? Running on a Raspberry Pi has its own separate set of additional issues to deal with.?? We really need to encourage others to get familiar with and use this resource, so I hope you will take a look. Re: Trying to access a ratflector from my radio
Ratflectors are normally just reachable via the Internet unless there is a local emergency going on.? The operators of those ratflectors don't want to tie up a repeater or reflector with a lot of digital data traffic that would interfere with other users of those resources unless it was necessary to do so, and they had permission from the repeater and/or reflector owners.? Each time a station would send out a chat, beacon, QST message or tried to do a file transfer, it would appear that someone was keying up the repeater and not saying anything.? File transfers could take a bit and during that time, no one else would be able to use that resource or series of resources.?
During local emergencies, the ratflector could be brought up on a local simplex channel and still cover a large chunk of real estate without tying up the repeater with digital traffic.? You could make arrangements with another station to bring up D-Rats on a repeater or reflector that is not normally in use for testing, but I would not make a habit of constantly operating in that mode unless there was a need for it.? Otherwise it would just be interfering with others trying to use the resource. |

I think?gaares.ratflector.com is bridged to REF030A Patrick (N3TSZ)

Do you know of any ratflectors that are connected to a reflector? I just want to see the technology work. I am in Charlotte, NC if that matters. Thanks, Brad |
Re: Philadelphia Digital Radio Association Ratflector
The K3PDR Ratflector is not connected to a D-STAR reflector. The only radio connection available is in the Philadelphia, PA area only. Patrick (N3TSZ)

Patrick, I am looking for a way to use my radio to connect my laptop to your ratflector instead of the internet. ? Is there a reflector associated with your ratflector? |

Make sure you have te minus sign infront of longitude with no space. On Mon, Aug 17, 2020, 20:00 Chuck Farrell <chuckffarrell@...> wrote: I manually entered my Lat / Lon on the Preferences / GPS page as?40.080970??-75.388610 |
Re: Weather QST Problem
No problem. That’s what the group is here for, to solve operation and configuration problems. We want D-Rats to become a recognized useful tool in the Emcomm toolbox. It can only be that if everyone can get it to work. 73

Re: Downloading / Updating Maps
I know the old Maploader no longer works.? The initial setup should provide all the tiles you need for the "base" map assuming you have input your lat and long.? With regard to the other?map types (landscape, opencycle and outdoors), I believe you need a subscription with ThunderForest.com to download the tiles.? My 501 c 3 organization can't afford the steep price for an annual subscription.? It isn't clear to me why such capabilities were added with such a price. 73 de N4VIP, Don On Tue, Aug 11, 2020 at 9:33 AM Chuck Farrell <chuckffarrell@...> wrote: I am running D-Rats 0.3.9 Beta 1 under Windows 8.1 64 bit and cannot figure out how to get / use the map overlays. Downloading / Updating Maps
Chuck Farrell
I am running D-Rats 0.3.9 Beta 1 under Windows 8.1 64 bit and cannot figure out how to get / use the map overlays. I tried running?d-rats_mapdownloader.exe thinking that would do it, but the log shows the error message:? ?File "d-rats_mapdownloader", line 3, in <module> zipimport.ZipImportError: can't find module 'gtk'
Can some one give me the steps to download and enable the maps? Thanks, Chuck W3AFV |
Re: Weather QST Problem
开云体育Glen, that did the trick, thanks. The combination of http and city command no spaces.73, Ron NY3J On 8/9/20 4:02 PM, Glen Strecker wrote:

Hi Jim,
Actually, I deleted the D-RATS-EV folder which is in the Users\userid\AppData\Roaming folder. It contains the d-rats configuration file. When D-Rats doesn't find this file it forces you to go through the settings just as if you were a new user. Fldigi does the same thing if something goes wrong you delete or rename the configuration file and it's like you were a new user. That got the time to count down but it won't send the QST. 73, Ron NY3J On 8/8/20 7:45 PM, Jim McCloskey wrote:

Hi Vince,
Thanks for that information. I deleted the config file and re-configured and now it will count down to zero. I also changed the size to 4096 and when it counts down to zero it still doesn't send the QST. I have to get this working before the net on Monday :-) 73, Ron NY3J On 8/8/20 11:48 AM, Vince Buono wrote:
