Re: WX API question
Hi Al, Detailed instructions for the weather QST are here: In preferences, the OpenWeather uri is left alone as default. Next, create the QST as described in the GitHub wiki link above. For your location, based on QRZ.com, the location should be "Aztec,NM,US" minus the quotes. I could not get the imperial units to work in d-rats, only directly on the openweathermap website. However d-rats converts the temperature as part of the QST response. There are conversion factors and conversion tables in the GitHub wiki mentioned above. Check out some of the other wiki items too. I hope this helps. 73, Greg AB8RG |

WX API question
Ok so I got my API and I thought I did it all correctly but no report generated. I am adding my query line with some digits changed so perhaps someone can point me in the correct direction. I see nothing related to this in the debug log, although maybe I do not know what to look for.
q=Aztec,NM,usUS&units=Imperial&75028c8d7fffe16c****24673fd Any help appreciated! AL M KF5SMH |

Re: Any luck connecting D-Rats to UZ7HO on Windows to connect to Winlink RMS Packet Stations?
I tried loading a message into the old D-Rats from 2014 and it did the exact same thing.? It just stopped once it got the connection.? Is it possible that the program is not sending its password when prompted?? The RMS operator is a friend of mine and says that he can see his station sending a prompt and the D-rats program just stops.

Re: Any luck connecting D-Rats to UZ7HO on Windows to connect to Winlink RMS Packet Stations?
Okay, the RMS station came back up after thunderstorms here earlier in the day.? The following is what I believe to be the pertinent information from the debug.log.? When the AGWPE port is set up, it will only operate through port 8000 and will not properly connect via the KISS port at 8100.? At the time of this test, the AGWPE was the only port being used.

Re: Any luck connecting D-Rats to UZ7HO on Windows to connect to Winlink RMS Packet Stations?
Maurizio,
I am not certain that it functioned in the past, at least as far as Winlink is concerned.? I know it can function to operate regular D-Rats over a Packet frequency.? The log of my connections with the RMS station was overwritten last night when I acted as the D-Rats net control for the Southeast US D-Star Weather Net.? This morning, the nearby RMS station is down along with two others that I can usually contact. The OMs may be doing something else with their radios right now.? I will try again in the next couple of days to see if I can get a connection again.? As I said above, it got a reply from the station but did not respond to the other station's prompt to send the message.? The program then creates another file with .lock. and the message name in the Outgoing mailbox.? In doing this, I am using a Yaesu FT-991A on our Packet frequency of 145.010.? The 991A has a built-in soundcard and is my normal means of sending Packet or HF Winlink when I need to.? I don't own a hardware TNC but use the UZ7HO packet radio software instead.? His sound modem program has always worked flawlessly in the past.? To make sure that was working, I connected to two local packet stations without any problems.? I was checking to see if anyone else had attempted to use the RMS version of Winlink as the program gives the choice between an RMS or Network (telnet) way to send a Winlink message.? Realistically, in my location we would probably need to use HF Winlink anyway because the storms that affect our area during hurricane season usually result in widespread loss of the infrastructure.? We lose the Internet, power and phone service goes out, etc.? I am going to be tied up most of the day tomorrow assisting in installing a new EOC for our city.? It is going to have D-Star capability and I hope to have D-rats as an integral part of the setup.? Right now, it looks like it will have an IC-7300 for HF, an ID-5100 for VHF-UHF analog and D-Star, and an FTM-400DX for C4FM capability.? We have local repeaters that can do D-Star, C4FM, and DMR that will cover a good portion of several parishes in Southeast Louisiana even if the Internet fails.? It should be interesting to see what we can do with these toys. |

Re: Any luck connecting D-Rats to UZ7HO on Windows to connect to Winlink RMS Packet Stations?
Hi Glen do you know if this?working in D-Rats before 0.3.8? if yes, can you check the D-Rats log and see if there is any error when you do use this feature ?? (maybe some error related to undefined global variable) 73 Maurizio Il giorno lun 25 mag 2020 alle ore 01:16 Glen Strecker <gstrecker55@...> ha scritto: I was experimenting with an AGWPE Radio Connection to try to connect to an RMS Packet Gateway directly from the station and not relaying it to a ratflector.? D-Rats contacts the designated station I listed in the Messages section as an RMS connection using the AGWPE Port 8000.? It won't make a connection through the KISS Port 8100.? UZ7HO is connected to a Yaesu FT-991A that has no problem connecting to this station using Winlink Express.? However, when D-Rats makes a connection, it just sits there after the RMS station makes the request to send the message.? The program just stops and the connection times out due to inactivity.? I have tried it with UZ7HO set with KISS Optimization on and off, and with the non-AX.25 filter on and off in all combinations.? The Yaesu is pretty fast at switching and the sound modem program is properly decoding everything, but D-Rats seems to have a problem picking up the returns.? Any ideas?? The problem is not a deal-breaker for me as I have the other program that will work.? Should I be trying to run it through the D-star radio instead?? I have a SignaLink and cables to connect to my ID-4100, but then I have to connect through the mic jack and change to a different frequency every time I need to send a Winlink message and am not sure it would work that way anyhow. |

I had done the following to get chirp working. Chirp has many of the same problems with 20.04 as does d-rats. ?

Some are asking, "Is it worth upgrading to the new version?"
I have some people asking me if it is worth the trouble to upgrade to the new version of D-Rats.? I know Maurizio Andreotti (IZ2LXI) & Marius Petrescu (YO2LOJ) have put in a lot of time and effort into getting D-Rats back to the point where it is a most useful addition to D-Star again.? So, what are the differences?? What features are most important to you?? Below is a table comparing the fixes and improvements over the original program.? I am sure other users here might have some additional ideas.? For example, D-Rats also knows how to work over VHF or UHF Packet with most of the RF features intact.? A ratflector can be connected to a TNC as well as a D-star radio and share information between both.? Just don't connect it to the same frequency as your local Packet backbone or regular Packet users will be very upset with you.
An asterisk (*) means the feature works.

When I started to edit it was a little painful, but I finally got used to it. I started with "102 Aspell for Windows 10" since I originally wrote this. If you like this format, I can make the rest of the wikis look like this one. As you are aware, the editor is very primitive and featureless. However, I think there is enough there to make the wikis very presentable. Please let me know if it is okay to proceed with the rest of the wikis. 73, Greg AB8RG |

Re: Kiss Sound Modem TNC via IP
开云体育Hello Rich, To work around this AGWPE "port" limitation, consider splitting out your Direwolf configuration into TWO.? One instance of Direwolf with a unique configuration file JUST for your Winlink side.? Then run another Direwolf instance with a different configuration file for your APRS side.? Just make sure the KISS-TCP and AGW ports are unique between the two config files.? At that point, just configure your Windows computer to connect to the AGW port associated with the Winlink setup and there you go. --David KI6ZHD On 05/20/2020 08:51 AM, Rich KR4PI
