Hi,

Fro the usb cable to work as data input on the IC9700 you need to set it up correctly:

- Go to menu -> Set -> Connenctors -> USB(B)/Datafunctions:

??? ??? > Set USB (B) function to DV data

??? ??? > Set DATA function to DV Data

??? ??? > Set GPS Out to OFF

??? ??? > check DV Data/GPS Out Baud Rate to be as you would like to use (9600 is a good choice)

- Go to menu -> GPS

??? ??? > Set GPS TX Mode to OFF

- Go to menu -> Set -> DV/DD Set

??? ??? > Set DV Data TX to Auto

??? ??? > Depending on your partners, you may need to switch DV Fast Data off...

Between newer ICOM radios, fast data is possible, but wit older ones (e.g. IC7100) you need to turn it off.

I know the IC 9700 has an special cable for data por some opc cable, so I ll buy it and let you all know. I don't have a 9700 but all other ICOMs use the data jack for drats and rs-ms1.?

Re: Drats IC 9700

I would bet Com8 is the correct port for D-Rats, but some other setting on your radio is screwing it up. Does your radio have a Data mode? Does it have settings for the USB connection under a "connectors" menu item? This is something you are going to have to find online or else read the manual for settings. On my 7100 (which I think has a vaguely similar menu structure to the newer radios like yours) I need to have "set/connectors/DATA MOD set to USB". Data itself must be "DV DATA" NOT "CI-V". The ports on these radios can be configured for a lot of things, so you need to research it. If you can find somebody online who spells out the settings, that is probably easiest.?

Re: Drats IC 9700

Ok I M using only one of the 2 usb cables that the IC 9700 the one with the 2.5mm I do not have it right know. Nevertheles I did all the configuration on COM 7 and I get the Radio to TX, but it keeps going like that so I have to shut down the radio. Every time I open the Drats the radios goes TX and does not stop. I have? com 7 and com 8. on the Device Manager and? ?If I use com 8 nothing happens.?

Could he sent the settings to my my email is on qrz or NP3JD@...

Re: D-Rats Form Design

Michael - I am a D-rats enthusiast and have been working with the application as well as Winlink.? Both have their place in Emcomm with Winlink being the premier application.? If you learn more about Winlink you will find that it is not exclusively tied to Red Cross.? Anyone can generate a form that can be used to send specific types of reports to a served agency.??

At Texas State RACES, the Texas Dev. of Emergency Management uses the State of Texas STAR form to request assets and other needs that are requested by a local or other governmental incident participant. The STAR form and dozens of other forms have been constructed by any amateur operator will to put the form together.

The power of Winlink is to be able to send and receive text messages over a wide range of real-world Emcomm environments regardless of network availability. Please review the capability of Winlink before casting doubts to others about its viability.

Re: D-Rats Form Design

I can remember when D-STAR first hit the street. It was poo-pooed because "it won't work if the internet goes down". I wonder where those people are now. Any dumb ass with a backhoe can break the internet.

Thanks. I am holding out hope that some tech guy who does web sites is also a D-Rats fan and knows how to do this stuff. WinLink seems to have a political action group that converted a bunch o the Red Cross forms for FLDigi as well as designing really nice ARC forms with the logo, etc. It's all window dressing to appeal to Red Cross, which has certainly worked so far. Although their current national exercise (Nov 14) uses A LOT of Telnet, which is a real head scratcher for emcomm. If the internet is working on both ends, just use email...no need for ham radio.?

Re: Drats IC 9700

It does indeed work over the USB cable. We have a D-Rats group weekly and have a member with a 9700 who has it working. D-Rats just uses a serial connection. I am not absolutely familiar with how te 9700 works, but do have a serial to D-Rats connection on both bluetooth (5100) and USB (7100). Usually either creates 2 comm ports, the first one is for CI V, the second is for serial data. Use the second.

Re: Changes in QST Openweather Lat: and Lon:

You should only need to put the City,fl,us in the QST box.? Do not include the coordinates.? The program should be picking that up from your station location coordinates that you set up under Preferences in the GPS tab.? At least it works that way for me.? I am located in Slidell, LA but there are more than one Slidell in the country.? It manages to find the right one.

Changes in QST Openweather Lat: and Lon:

Before the recent Hurricane, I decided to do a QST weather display in D-Rats.
In the QST edit box labeled D-rats.exe
Openweather is chosen
current is chosen
Brooksville,FL,US? lat :28.48 lon: -82.47 is entered
But, Current weather at Brooksville - US lat: 38.68 Lon: -84.07 is displayed, along with their current weather conditions.
lat: 38.68 Lon: -84.07 being South Willow Street, Brooksville, Bracken County, Kentucky, 41004, USA ( lat: 38.690869 Lon: -84.072854 )
What am I missing? I've followed
But it still changes the Lat: and Lon: yet it is displayed properly in the QST lower window.
?
Thank you,?for any assistance you can offer.

Re: Drats IC 9700

I saw that page but it is for DSTAR . Remember I m looking for D Rats. FOr example GPS off? Baud rate? etc. I was looking for files on this group and I found a document? configuration for specific radios on how to setup D Rats

Re: Drats IC 9700

Try the information from this webpage:

I have an ID-4100 and could not get it figured out until I read the above page.? The key, for my situation, was adding the "G" address in the RPT 2 field.? Once I did that and connected to an internet connected gateway, my location popped up on APRS.fi!
