Edfel,
Go to icom.japan.com. Click on the firmware/software icon. Enter
IC-9700 in the oval and it will bring up a list of
firmware/software. Download and install the USB Driver file that
is for multiple radios. It will install 2 Silicon Labs virtual
comm ports. Important, you must have your radio connected to the
computer with a USB cable in order for these ports to show up in
your device manager! Usually, port "A" is the first one listed
(lower number). You can check by bringing up device manager,
double click on "Ports", then right click on the comm port you
want to check. Select properties and then click on details. In the
details window you need to change "Property" from "Device
Description" to "Device instance path". At the end of the value it
will show either an "A" or a "B". I hope this helps.

Problem
solved. I retried the "B" comm port and it now works just
fine.
