ADX-S kit almost complete. I am impressed

Ooh... That daughterboard is very sexy!? Once you release that I will order multiples.? I have others interested locally, too!? ?This is something needed for all of those Adafruit clone boards!? Like I said before, this is something that I have been shocked that it hasn't been done before and is sold everywhere!?

I can see how a TXCO make or break for WSPR.? I took the ADX-S to my weekend house with the better antennas (which I plan on retiring to once the world settles down more and I am financially able to), and realized that I didn't have anything to calibrate it with.? I ended up using the 200 Hz WSPR band on 20m to do this which was kind of painful, really.? But I did notice the drift on that mode even just receiving.? It's probably okay for monitoring but you'd drift all over the place transmitting without the TXCO on WSPR.? It's not really noticeable on FT4 and FT8.?

The ADX-S is pretty slick... It's easier to deal with than the QDX Rev 1 was... I can fix anything that goes wrong with it and modify it to my hearts content which isn't really the case with the QDX.? It's also much easier to build. Don't worry about the two things I mentioned.? Once I looked and saw both parts were available on Amazon, I needed to get them for my "junk box" stock anyway.? I rather like the standoffs and for the simpler projects the buttons and caps are better than the panel mount buttons I had been using.?

As far as a calibration routine on the ADX-S I am considering a modification to the code to allow you to zero beat WWV on 10 or 15 MHz on receive... It might be handy for doing this in the field rather than using a different receiver or counter to sync the 1 MHz signal.? ?That or using the wspr window...?

That's of course a change to the original ADX and not on you at all.? It's amazing that SSB and AM through it works as well as it does too, just by hooking up an amplified speaker.? That little IF chip has many potential applications.? It works better than it should.? ?Have some on their way from China to further experiment with.? ?Thanks for the fun kit.? ?Looking forward to the TXCO board!

Hi Fred,

Thanks for your feedback. It seems I should change the stand-off supplier as I have found another defect which is a good catch before it makes trouble on your end. Sorry for that.

The receiver is quite sensitive as it works with a small whip antenna in its regular scenario. What I have modified is to add ATT and AGC back. It is useful for a fair ham radio antenna.

It is not a problem to support 80 meter band. Just a few lines of code change. The filter design can be found too.

Have fun with your kit. Some people use it as a WSPR TRX. After you add TCXO mod, you will be able to transmit at 33dBm instead of 23dBm. It will be available for order very soon.

Thanks,

?I have the ADX-S almost completed.? The bad: I had a defective stand off with no threads and was missing a gray button cap.? The good:? I am not complaining because I liked what came with the kit so much I wanted some for my own projects, anyway!? So I ordered a 3mm brass standoff set as an assortment and also buttons with caps assortment off of Amazon US.? I changed the colors of the LEDs on the mode display to green, and the gray buttons to blue because I could.? I am actually quite impressed with the receiver on the kit.? For how simple it is, it works very well.? I have 10 more of those CD2003 IF chips coming from China once the holiday is over.? I have a bunch of ideas for them.? The superhet mod works better than I thought it would, too.?

I could be wrong but the receiver was a tad bit better than on my (tr)uSDX.? ?It's perfectly good for FT-8 that is for sure.?

I have been able to run a USB 2.0 hub with a OTA adapter to type C and a USB 3.2 hub type C off the Android phone driving a CM108 chipset USB sound card and CAT on the ADX-S no problem with FT8CN (and also on windows and Linux).? It's pretty slick.? That stuff fits in a "sandwich" box that's about the same size as the ADX-S and all I need to do is plug in the hub cable to the phone or laptop to use it now!?

Almost done because I haven't populated the 74ACT244 and three final BS-170s yet, and have just been burning in the RX.? I want to perfectionist tweak the 7 band filters first.? I am assuming that a 4 to 1 unun on the finals side of a filter fixture to hook all of the 7 filters up to will be the proper way to go with a NanoVNA.?

Is there any reason I can't build up a 80m filter for this too?? ?I am going to try it.?

I was easily hearing Europe, South America, North America and Africa this evening on 20m with the ADX-S receiver from SE Arizona.?

It's actually an easy kit and so far every part of it worked first try.? The code is easily modified.? (old bootloader, Nano on the Arduino IDE.)? One thing to note is that the CAT will not work without the si5351 board being attached, so trying to test the Nano before putting on the board isn't possible unless you reflash the code to test the board!?

Nice job Adam!
