Re: Simple FT8 DSB rig

Adam,

What do you think of going SSB instead of DSB at least for the transmitter?? I believe this would just involve the addition of a simple 3 pole crystal filter and an additional SA612 mixer circuit - not many components at all.? Suitable crystals for 20 meters are readily available - 4 MHz for the crystal filter and 10,073 MHz for the mixer (or 4 MHz and 3.072 MHz for 40 meters) which would just have to be pulled slightly.? This approach would double the effective power and also keep the channel cleaner - i.e., avoid the unnecessary LSB signal.

EOL: CRK-10A CW Transceiver Kit

Folks,

This is to announce the EOL for CRK-10A CW Transceiver Kit. You might find some left at my distributors but I have zero in stock now.

I will focus on HT-1A dual band CW transceiver, R3500D ARDF receiver and the upcoming DSB transceiver kit for Digital mode (model: D4D).

Re: Simple FT8 DSB rig

Thanks Mircea,

The price will be competitive of course. I hope more people can enjoy this tiny radio for portable/mobile operation. I will return home tomorrow after a 10-day trip to restart the test. I should be able to ship in 5 weeks.

Thanks,
Adam

If the price will be competitive, it will be a great success.

I do not have crystals for those frequencies, otherwise I try a replica.

Re: Simple FT8 DSB rig

Sounds like a good idea. Here we have a ham already tested this system okay.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: Simple FT8 DSB rig

Adam,

Thanks for your response.? I was thinking of combining it with a Raspberry PI and batteries in a single enclosure for portable use, and use my phone for the UI.

Re: Simple FT8 DSB rig

Ron,

The 20-meter version will be announced later. Why a version without an enclosure? Do you plan to integrate to a big system?

Thanks,
Adam

DSB transceiver for Digital mode

May I call it D4D - DSB transceiver for Digital mode? This 1-watt DSB transceiver will provide lots of fun of building and operating. The VOX circuit will provide even more convenience to the operator. Thanks to the strong capability of digital mode and computer, this rig is not a toy. You can easily make FT8 contacts of 300-1500 miles range with a moderate antenna like full sized dipole ?or EFHW.

The photos are for the prototype based on CRK-10A enclosure. It looks quite close to the final version. We will run testing in the following weeks. The initial test looks promising. We plan to take orders in about a month. We will start with 7074 version for FT8. The price will be very reasonable. Stay tuned and spread the word if you guys are interested.

Thanks,
Adam

Re: Simple FT8 DSB rig

Adam,

Very good.? I was under the impression that you were just doing a 40 Meter version of this rig.? Sounds like you're planning to do a 20 Meter version as well.? Any chance, you'll sell a version that does not include an enclosure?

Ron,

A kit is being designed based on this circuit. I will announce in a month or two. You will likely see the prototype in digital mode forum in Hamvention this May.

Thanks,
Adam

Great idea Adam!

I'm looking forward to it.

Re: FT8 HT

Folks,

Thanks for encouragement from many hams. I have decided to make it a kit to include more features including:
1. VOX control
2. Better spectrum purity
3. Better frequency stability
4. A metal case like CRK-10A
5. Still low cost and easy to build
6. Support MacBook and other modern laptops to detect it as an external mic and speaker
7. Wide power supply range 7.4~15V (about 180~350mA, and about 0.3~1.8W output)

As I am still busy with my work, I have asked a guru to design the kit for me. I will keep you posted

Thanks,
Adam

A dedicated page for simple receiver

Folks,

JL1KRA made a dedicated page for the simple receiver I introduced earlier. The design is quite unique but the performance is acceptable regarding selectivity and sensitivity. You can give it a try and make it a club project if you wish.

Simple FT8 DSB rig

I built it on my perf board. I made the first QSO days ago with a ham 1168 miles away. It is a 20m DSB 1-watt transceiver with VOX.

Re: Yet another FT8 DSB rig

Folks,

I managed the first QSO with this 1-watt DSB FT8 rig on 20m with a ham about 1168 miles away. The short term frequency stability is still an area for improvement due to final stage heating the crystal.

Thanks,
Adam
