Sony SRG-300H controlling over IP not saving presets

Brain trust, I am having an issue with saving presets on the Sony SRG-300H camera. I am using the the Sony SRG-300SE IP module and it is controlling the camera manually just fine over IP UDP from what I can tell. The only issue that I seem to have is being able to save the presets. I have used lots of Sony P&T cameras over the years and have tried everything that I can think of and it just will not save the presets. I have the technical manual with the protocol from Sony. In looking at the commands leaving the module and the return from the camera, none of it seems to match what is in the manual. In talking to Sony tech support they have indicated that while the SRG-300SE and SRG-300H are similar, there is some differences due to firmware. I have 2 rooms and 6 camaeras, all are having the same issue.?Unfortunately this is a remote job site and I am trying to troubleshoot from afar.?

Hi Steve,

There are two different versions of the Sony modules:
Version 1 has 6 presets. This module uses the presets of the camera.
Version 2 has 25 presets. Afaik this version uses NVRAM of the Crestron controller, does not use the memory of the camera. Therefore you have to save the presets before recalling them, recall only works with Crestron, not with IR remote control.

Yes I know that we are saving internal to the module and not to the memory of the camera. That being said, I have tried to send the VISCA command direct outside the module directly to save preset 1 in the camera's internal memory and to recall, but that does not seem to be working. We are not using the IR remote to save / recall presets.

Where is the Version 1 of the Sony SRG camera module located? I downloaded the SRG-300SG module from the applications market which I am sure is the Version 2 module. They 6 preset module is all I need.

Thanks

If I remember right, the module with the 6 presets if not specifically for the SRG series, but the EVI series.
You can find it it in the market place.
Protocol should be identical.

Whar are the responses from the camera when sending a camera preset save/recall command?

Anoher thing comes into my mind: Afaik the IP control requires address parameter in the command to be 1.
Different addresses do not make sense, since the cameras are addressed via IP address, no daisy chaining over IP. Please check the protocol documentation for more info.

I was finally able to get the presets to save to the camera memory once I added the header to the VISCA string, thank you for pointing me in the right direction. The interesting thing about this is that there is a display "Information Display" on the video output that is an onscreen confirmation every time a preset is either saved or recalled. This happens even if you use the IR remote. In the menu you can turn off the "Information Display" but it will only stay off for one preset recall, then it turns itself back on. Same is true if you send it the VISCA command. I have placed a call to Sony Tech support to ask if this is a "Feature" . While this is not perfect, it allowed me to get the job done.

The header that I have to place in front of the preset VISCA commands was?\x01\x00\x00\x09\xFF\xFF\xFF\xFF

I also had to send a "Stop" command after the preset save or recall, otherwise it would not recall the next preset.

The Stop command was?\x01\x00\x00\x09\x00\x00\x00\x42\x81\x01\x06\x01\x05\x05\x03\x03\xFF

I feel pretty sure that the Preset Save / Recall within the module is related to how the module is processing the feedback for the Absolute Position Inquiry. I will look into this once I can get a camera in hand to do further testing. I ran into this a few years back with the Sony BRC-Z330 camera.?

Thanks again for all the help.

Hi,
Good to hear that you had success on recalling the presets.
I struggled with the same OSD thing for some hours, received a hint:
At least one of the momories contains lens position AND further settings, including OSD setting. If I remember right, this was memory 1.
To solve the isse, you have to turn off OSD, then save to reset 1.

You probably have to delete the existing preset then save it.

I can confirm that the OSD issue of these cameras is fixed using method of Crestronfreak55.? I was experiencing same issue with similar model camera and could not figure out how to prevent OSD from showing message when saving/recalling presets.

Yesterday I changed setting in menu to disable OSD Messages, then with that message off, saved all presets (just in case).? The OSD message issue didn't come back.

Not sure if it was preset 1 that did the trick or not, as I saved into all the preset slots so recalling wouldn't bring it back, but it worked like a charm.? Thanks for the info on this!? Not intuitive at all.
