Please help with MLX-2. On site tomorrow (yes, Sunday)

Dear Group,

I know this is beating an old horse, but we have inherited a client with a whole bunch of MLX-2s and CEN-RFGW-EXs around the house - and none of the MLX-2s are working.

None are showing up on the gateways. All display "RF out of range"

* Updated the firmware on all CEN-RFGW-EXs to the latest version (did not work with random old versions either)

* Ensured that all the gateways are assigned as "MLX-2 only" in Simpl (they were already, as IP)

* Performed factory reset (0+OK)?

* Attempted to Acquire - The MLX-2 says it has acquired, but it is not showing in the gateway

* Tried changing the channel on the gateway - the MLX-2, once acquired, displays the correct channel in the information screen - but is still not showing in the gateway.

* Tried rebooting, either / both - same thing.

Tried multiple gateways on site, tried multiple MLX-2s, exactly the same behaviour

In all cases the distance between the gateway and the remote was 4-6 feet with no obstacles

Please help - we are going to site tomorrow morning, and I will be extremely grateful for any and all pointers.

You have to keep firmware on gateways on a certain old version. The newer versions do not support mlx-2s

When I started, the firmware was on 1.x on most of the gateways - and it did not work then.
Any particular "sweet spot" version that I need to try?
Thanks!

Specifically, the CEN-RFGW-EX has to have firmware version 2.001.0024 or older.? Version 2.001.0035 removed support for the MLX-2.

Most obliged, still on the FTP!
thank you, will try tomorrow

how did this work out?? I am having similar issues - random RF range message at the top, and intermittent button presses.? I press channel 789 for example and get 77 , 8, it waits long enough to change to ch 778 and?then a 9 magically appears.? Now I got a call that the remote is scrolling multiple items in menus with one button press.? Distance to the gateway is about 8 feet.?

Please tell me this is not a function of how Infinet EX stuff behaves - I was going to try out a MLX3 but at this rate if the older MLX2 isn't behaving well, what are my options?? I hate to go to a 4x...

The range on the MLX-3 (and other Infininet EX stuff) is significantly better than the MLX-2.

Thinking out loud here - only because I really do like these remotes - has anyone attempted a high gain 2.4ghz antenna on the gateways for the MLX2 to increase signal strength? ?I've noticed that there seems to be no rhyme or reason to why it sometimes is sluggish to respond and sometimes not. ?I need to make a diagnostics page on one of my panels I suppose so I can track the data coming out of it when it works and when it has issues.

I am determined now...lol

Going to try some voodoo and raise this thread from the dead....

Having the exact same issue as the first post, MLX-2 acquires but RF gateway out of reach on the new firmware (not supported I know).

On the supported firmware, tried?1.003.008 through to?2.001.0024 and the handset fails to connect at all.

I have done all manor of restoring and initializing etc, tried going into acquire mode via the command prompt, fails every time. The only reason that I don't think that this handset might be faulty is that it does connect on the newest firmware.

I'm sitting about 3 foot from the box too.

Does anyone have any ideas of anything I can try please?

?

Not to sound like a Negative Nancy. ?But your best best is to drop and smash that remote. ?The ones that I have had out in the field have been nothing short of a complete headache. ?From acquiring, to programming to, ?overall functionality and stability..?

Sorry about not being any help but that remote is an all out failure.

The remote does suck, BUT high-gain antennas do help (found on Amazon) and make sure your channel is set to 11. I've done a few that way that are still kicking. Oh, and make sure you put some high power lithium batteries to help the remote out.

Thanks both.

At the moment I don't think it's a reception issue as I'm sitting on top of the gateway plus the fact the newer firmware pairs immediately...

Will try CH11

Do you block all of the other channels or leave them be?

Just in case anyone else has this...

So, not having used these before I wasn't aware that there are different versions of the remote.

Although it was marked as an MLX-2 it is in fact a PLX-2 which only works with a Prodigy PMC2

The obvious when you know sign was the remote has Prodigy printed at the bottom.

Now it's connected to the correct device it's working fine.
