NVX and DANTE on Cisco 2960-x Switches

I am working on? a system using NVX-352 as DANTE sources. There are 15 NVX-352, 14 NVX-D30, and 20 other DANTE devices. I have been trying to get the switches configured correctly. I was able to get the NVX system working on 3 Pakedge S3L-24P switches, but could not get the DANTE to work at all. We changed to CIsco 2960-X, but I am unable to find the correct settings in the CIsco manual and most examples are for 300 series switches. I currently have 2 NVX-352 and the Cisco and have turn turned on the NVX stream, just using DANTE.? Has anyone used this type of configuration and maybe have an idea of what I am missing? I have a feeling it is something very obvious. Thanks, Bill

Maybe you need use different VLANs to NVX and Dante.
You need check if the switch capacity of processing is ok (bandwidth). I think this is not your problem, but, a doble check can help you.

Maybe this doc can help you.

If you can use the NVX in your configs, i Think you is able tu use Dante.
Try remove all NVX and check if your dante work.

What specific issue are you having with Dante? Discovery? Dropouts? Clocking?

if it¡¯s discovery then you likely have an issue with broadcast traffic or your controller PC is on a different VLAN.?

if it¡¯s clocking then you might just need to enable QoS

NVX and Dante need to be on the same VLAN especially when using 352s?

Clocking is the issue, they will not connect long enough to pass audio. There is no traffic except for the DANTE clock and control. One transmitter, on receiver. NVX stream off.

Make sure the 352s have a pingable gateway, otherwise you'll see Dante clock issues.

I had this exact issue using that pakedge switch? a while back.? Ended up buying a Cisco 350x and still had the same problem.? Finally figured it out after a number of headache filled days.??

Do you have unregistered multicast filtering enabled?? If NVX is working you probably do.? That setting will break Dante so you need to forward on some specific multicast addresses to the Dante device ports.?

  1. ? 224.0.0.251 mdns
  2. ? 224.0.0.230 control / monitoring
  3. ? 224.0.0.231 control / monitoring
  4. ? 224.0.0.232 control / monitoring
  5. ? 224.0.0.233 control / monitoring
  6. ? 224.0.1.129 ptp
  7. ? 224.0.1.130 ptp
  8. ? 224.0.1.131 ptp
  9. ? 224.0.1.132 ptp

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. Just my luck, searches for unregistered or filtering in the documents I have returned no results.

I actually found the info about those addresses from a combination of biamp, qsc and shure documentation.? Not much at all from crestron.??

I've had the same experience. I should have been more specific. I'm having a hard time finding mention in the Cisco documentation.

hello

i had the same issues , but after i sepeted to diffrent VLANS it working .
i have done 1 vlan for dante, 1 for nvx and crestron devices .on each vlan i did a port for my pc to configure and it fine .

i hope it helps?

With enterprise level switches, it's best to setup QoS for Dante when on the same VLAN as other multicast traffic like NVX. And with Catalysts, NVX will work without unregistered filtering enabled as the querier and mrouter autolearn functionalities are much more robust than Pakedge (Pakedge is horrible for things like NVX) but you can still enable it with the command switchport block multicast which is applied on a port basis so youd want to do int range gi x/x/x-x but that will affect pulling up device settings in Dante Controller as Dante traffic is seen as unregistered multicast.

I can certainly understand QOs being need if there is a lot of traffic on the LAN. I am having issues with the DANTE connections with 3 DANTE endpoints and NO audio or video traffic, only control

Are you assigning IPs statically or using DHCP? If you're doing static, make sure the gateway defined in Dante Controller for the 352s matches what's defined in the NVX UI (I've tried doing the 0.0.0.0 that another colleague recommended but have never seen it actually work). Are any setting populating when you pull up the endpoints in Dante Controller?

Bill, did you ever get a solution for this switch?

Yes, turns out it was the DANTE firmware on the NVX units.
