Move to Pyng?
开云体育All, ? I have been going through some of the masters training and seems Pyng is getting pushed more and more and considering moving my lighting to Pyng to start to actually play around with it.? The question I have for the group is how much of a PITA is starting over a lighting program that includes a lot of panel lighting?? When it originally came out I didn’t pay much attention as it did not support panel lights or wired shades which I typically use at least one panel and spending 2 hours programing a system on an ipad sounded like zero fun.? ? I had planned to use Pyng for some smaller installations but it seems Crestron wants us to use it on everything and need to gain some more experience before I do it on a large job.? ?I like the story Pyng tells but also Studio sounded good when I heard the pitch at CEDIA a few years ago and that turned out to be wrong.? I still struggle with how to actually design a system in pyng as I typically have used D3 for load balancing and seems like I still have to do that so the electrician has something… ? Tying to educate myself on options and would love to hear from anyone else that has put Pyng into an existing system with panel lights and shades.?? ? Thanks ? Chris |
I haven't done panel lighting, just wireless. The nicest thing about it is that the installers can set up a whole lighting system and me as the programmer just has to drop a smart graphic into the panel and 2 lines of code in my program. With that said, I have a pyng processor in my garage that I still haven't setup for my personal use. With the new smart graphic lists available its a lot easier for me to use my lighting program than it is to setup in pyng. Personal preference and I result of a lot of programming development. Personally, being a programmer, I would never use pyng for a centralized lighting system. However, if the company I work for choose to use pyng and use an installer to set it up I am very happy with that decision. One less thing to deal with. |
开云体育So easy on pyng! Biggest lighting job we doing thus year and using pyng to setup, making changes is so easy to, scheduling events cake, cant go wrong, makes smart object app programming mindless. Can i have you pyng hub lol??? Mark Sent from my Boost Mobile Phone. -------- Original message -------- From: "jones.matt94@... I think it works well for HVAC, I haven't yet done it with lighting, but I can imagine it would be super easy. ?You get to hand over a lot of the customization to a cookie cutter GUI, but it works, and is easy to integrate with full boat simpl/vtp systems (unlike Prodigy...)
I might have to try it with a small house music system at some point. ?If it gets me paid and works well, I would gladly give up the ability to customize a bit on the small jobs. ?I don't like the sound of Crestron pushing it so much though, as we start getting into system wizards at a certain point. |
开云体育Is there still no way to restore a system if your pyng hub goes ports up? ?Just curious if that’s still a thing. I was involved in a job that the hub died and I recall getting the system back up and running a pain. ? Caleb Radecky |

If you connect to pyng using toolbox and then file manager you can restore the user settings and have as a backup and and when the pyng hub goes bad just replace it and reload the the files to the new one and you are done .?

I believe it does have a backup options to store it in the "cloud". Go into the settings of the pyng from an iPad/Web browser and enable advanced configuration. From there you should see MyCrestron Services and in that menu it allows you to backup your configuration.
I've done a few jobs with panelized lighting and the Pyng hub and it has worked pretty well. We will probably continue to use the Pyng for the programming side of lighting. There are only a few complaints that I have.? First, you can't program it before hand. In our company we try to get everything programmed before it's installed at the house. Not a deal breaker but annoying. Second, If you have a module in the panelized lighting go bad or you need to replace it with a universal module, then it can be a real pain. You basically have to go into Pyng and decommission the loads on that module from there rooms. Then reassign the module and its loads to their correct rooms. Really only an issue if you have to replace something (I had to do it on our last job). Also not a deal breaker. |
开云体育That option in the cloud only works to restore the same pyng Hub . So if you want to have a backup and want to restore to another hub you will have to use toolbox and file manager to extract configuration files . We have done it already and what we have done is that on all jobs we have done we leave a second pyng hub with the configuration loaded in case the one goes bad the only thing the client has to do is replace the pyng hub .? My question regarding Pyng, which I haven't seen answered anywhere, is how do you generate the documentation and reports that D3Pro provides.?
I know Pyng generates the Engraver files, but what about load schedules, bill of materials, circuit layouts, scene definitions, etc. - can Pyng produce those? |
开云体育I don’t think it does this… Pyng is all done post installation so if you are doing panel lighting it needs to be done in D3 for loads and then programed in Pyng later… if there was a way to edit the configuration files manual it would be ideal for a large system to get all of the engraving files. ? Question for Chris or anybody that knows: Does Pyng consider every load on a panelized lighting system a "device", or just the modules? So in other words if you have 2 full panels with 8 full DIM8 modules would it be 16 devices, or 128 devices against the 250 limit?

Per ? ??Scheduled events are only days of the week and not a calendar.? I use this often so if there is a better way to solve this problem I would be interested to learn from others.? I just recently talked about this on my blog and posted code on github that calculates the angle and elevation to the sun and then operates shades based on whether the sun is shining in the window or not. ? Windows are defined in an xml file that is read by the processor so the code knows the angle of the window for comparison with the sun angle to know when the sun is shining into the window or not.? You can find the code here ? And my blog here Jay ------ Original Message ------

Thanks. ?I realize it was referencing pyng but it also asked for better ways of handling opening/closing of shades based on time of year and as pyng is a closed environment I figured a suggestion that incorporated code running on a separate processor that could be linked into pyng would be a welcome suggestion.
