i guess both work, is there a reason to use 1 or the other?

In my experience, LG's implementation of Crestron Connected has been at best limited.

Early implementations were RoomView Connected, required WOL to turn them on and did NOT implement volume control (which was a deal breaker in our situation).

My client and I gave up on trying to use either RVCD or Crestron Connected (basically RVCD v2) to control LG.

I hope your mileage is better...
