DIN-CENCN-2(-POE) anyone used it? I'm not impressed!
So first off some comments: * Can't connect to it using USB even though the thing has a USB port on the front * Can't find it using Toolbox device discovery on Ethernet (PC & gateway plugged into same switch) * Can find it using Toolbox device discovery on USB but can't get any system info * Had to find it in my router by looking up the MAC address * Does have a web interface that you can connect to once you know the IP address and that is pretty good once you get that far. * The Do Guide is frankly a joke. What ever happened to proper manuals? Some concerns: * No way to detect the gateway is online within Simpl Windows as it's not possible to add an Offline Manager * My really big concern - After a program reset (new program loaded) the gateway resets and feedback to any keypads connected does not get updated. My program uses the ReportLightLevel input on the C2NI-CB's and lighting levels & scenes are stored in NVRAM. When the gateway comes back online none of the feedback LED's light on the keypads until they have been set low and then high again. Same with ReportLightLevel, if that signal is already high then I get no AmbientLightLevel update from the keypad until I drop & re-assert?ReportLightLevel. This is unacceptable. * Cresnet device Poll Managers don't seem to work reliably - If the device is plugged in it never shows as offline after a progreset so I can't use that to update the status of FB & ReportLightLevel. If I unplug a device when the gateway is in a normal operational mode then Offline status is updated. If I ProgReset with the device offline & plug it back in while the system is restarting it still shows as offline even though I can use the device. Regarding connecting via USB I get this info when connecting: Could not connect to the device as specified by the address. No valid Communications channel available Failure: RAPI init failed. ?Is ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center installed? <not supplied> So does that error mean that I need to install ActiveSync or Windows Device Centre or that these are installed and are causing the issue? The message is ambiguous to say the least. As far as I'm aware I have neither of those installed. Also if I do need to install them then I ask why. We haven't had to use ActiveSync since the old MT-1000 days. This is not an enterprise product! Any comments welcome. -s ? |

Does anyone know if I need to change Cresnet IDs to within the range accepted by the DIN-CENCN-2 before I connect them to the unit, or can I still access and change them after they are connected? I'm thinking of Lincoln's earlier comment:

Not sure what you are having problems.? What are you using to program the system:? D3PRO, SIMPL, or Crestron Home/Pyng/OS3?
Overall I have been pleased with the DIN-CENCN-2 however some of the advance features, such as going in and adjusting the dimmer curve of a CLX-dimmer does not work (at least at the time).? But full disclosure, I have only programmed them in SIMPL.? It was very easy to change the Cresnet ID.? Just drag and drop in the like any other device in configure view in SIMPL. It has been a couple of years now I guess.? At the time, D3PRO did not yet support the DIN-DIN-CENCN-2 and well ... Crestron Home didn't even exist yet. In fact, Crestron said it the project was too big for D3PRO even without the DIN-CENCH-2.? Even if it was supported, I didn't really trust D3PRO to handle such large project given its quirks. It that system, we had 4 of them and used them for all the keypads in the house (~80 keypads).? We used the DIN-CENCN-2 mainly to improve the response time for the keypads as keypads are fast poll devices and having them all on one Cresnet would probably be too sluggish.? Dimmer modules are slow poll devices so we put them all on the PRO3 Cresnet as speed wasn't essential.? But because of the number of Dimmer modules (something like 60), we used a DIN-HUB for the dimmer modules. One of DIN-CENCN-2 was in the Cabana.? For fear of lightning damage and because the distance was something like 500ft., we used a pair of NVX-351s with fiber link to the Cabana TV and used the Ethernet from the NVX to get Ethernet to Cabana.? The Cabana had a couple of Dimmer modules too so they were were also on the same DIN-CENCN-2. That is how we discovered the the DIN-CENCN-2 did not support the advance settings in the CLX-dimmers. All the other systems I have done where small enough were the DIN-CENCN-2 was not needed. Steve |
