D3 or Simpl
I have a question for those that do lighting programming whether its resi or commercial. If it's a straight forward lighting system without any crazy DMX or like, do you prefer D3 or writing in Simpl? I ask only if you have experience with both and if you use Simpl only how do you do documentation if needed? |

I used to use D3. It's a PIA if you need to make changes remotely and it generates very large messy programs with sometimes thousands of compile errors in a large system.
UI options are limited. Now every lighting system we do is written in Simpl. I've developed my own framework which is far less bloaty and writes all scene settings back to a single config file which gets emailed to us whenever it is changed so that we always have a backup. All documentation is done in Visio where I am also building up a library of lighting components. Be prepared to put a lot of effort if you go the Simpl route but it's well worth the effort. -s |

开云体育I'm with you. I've done it both ways. At home I wrote my own. On commerical lighting projects I've wrote my own and used D3. All but one resi project I have done have all been D3. All work fine.I suppose it comes down to scope, time, and serviceability(not just for you but others in the company that maintain the systems). Both have advantages and disadvantes. As for documentation, D3 is nice, but Excel works too for load schedules and calculations. D3 has pretty wiring diagrams but those are also in manuals. No panels in D3 that's for sure. I guess it depends on how big the system is. I haven't had issues with D3 and would never use it for Panel design.? |

D3 works extremely well, and I use it on most lighting projects, it is super simple and the only thing that will trip you up if you don't know it, is that on a TOGGLE button, you need to change the default feedback from "toggle" to when "any selected load on" something to that effect.? otherwise you will get out of sync when you turn on load from button, then turn off with a scene, or some other button.??? I don't know why people complain about D3, it is way easier than HWI software was, more flexible.?? Just don't try to get into using touch panels or any VTPro work within D3 then you want to go kick a cat or something.? simply organize and add your labels to the buttons, then when you do remote system export you get clean simple data to work with.? I export one for Loads, one for Keypads, and one for Virtual Keypads; then any advanced type functions needed can easily be done via simpl

I would suggest using Crestron studio as it does all the stuff D3 Pro and simpl without actually having to write a simpl windows program and it is also supposed to vt-pro page creation automatically. Based on project design.?

D3 is no longer under active development at Crestron.? Bug fixes only.? And no SmartGraphics support.? You should start migrating away from it now while you have time to drop back and punt if you need to, rather than after they just cut off all support and you're left high and dry.? |

OK so I'm working on this for our office.? . . I created the lighting modules, named the loads in the properties, moved to KP programming (CNX-B12) and . . . [rant] I seriously have to drag and drop functions? . . and better yet I have to know what module and output they are on? I dont see anywhere here the names I listed under the module outputs. and Ill be damned if I would even attempt to program/service a multipanel job without them.
Oh and Faceplate designer, Why can't I just double click to edit name? I have to click, move cursor to the "Text One" field to type . . and double clicking won't select all the text like any other program made this century? I'm sorry but I fail to see any efficiencies gained here. This "Complete Overhaul" of Studio is far more inefficient than D3P or SIMPL in terms of data input and is not worth my time in it's current form. but hey . . thank goodness the columns auto organize when I change the size of them . . time well spent Crestron. Now stop pushing this crap on us and keep improving SIMPL, D3Pro, and VTP for those of us who arn't Control 4 converts. [/end rant] That being said. If I am missing something please let me know. I have tried using Studio as a SIMPL replacement and couldn't stand nuances/keyboard shortcut differences, etc and now I'm frustrated with the "Auto" programming side as well (Which we would only consider for lighting). I haven't spent too much time looking into details so I will admit I may be missing something simple? Until then, I have seen Prodigy/System builder/Adagio/etc before and know not to hop on-board until established CSPs who's businesses are on the line are comfortable doing so. |

开云体育In this case you are better off using D3 Pro to do the full design for the system for lighting.
Assuming you don't have any TSWs, you will not need to do any programing in Simpl. D3 will generate the Simpl Program for you with all the signals required to the different keypads. You Can also use D3 to then upload the program.? Without having to go into Simpl.

开云体育Just curious if it's just me. I have my bitches, no doubt. For large programs it is an absolute time vampire. 25 minute save as, 10 minute compiles. Just an absolute soul sucking vampire. All that aside, I have been having issues with realtime where is it has a problem connecting and wants to go to my address book to verify. ?Now recently just loading programs for 2 series systems. ?Will tell me there is no flash installed. I can load manually via toolbox though.? On Jul 10, 2017, at 3:57 AM, Nirav Shah nurv@... [Crestron] <Crestron@...> wrote:
