Crestron Mobile Pro G - Designing in Landscape
I have a job here that has a vast amount of iPads (around 30) but the caveat to it is a majority of them will be wall mounted. This means they need to be designed in landscape format.
Now I've already long ago given up on designing a layout that can be both portrait and landscape friendly opting for mostly portrait designs as they are native to VTPro. The problem I am having is designing this particular job solely in landscape format. I am locking the panels in landscape mode, but I am running into issues in the design of not knowing how to scale my images since we can't discretely build in landscape format in VTPro. I've been wracking my brain today trying to figure out how to do this but can't come up with any good solutions other than to just create a button, load it, and see how it looks. I am using blueprints as well, but they just don't turn out correctly since I can't run them at the desired ratios. Does anyone have any tips/pointers for designs they have done in landscape mode? Anything helps at this point. |

My tip would be to use CommandFusion all the way.

I just have to toss my hat in the ring for commandfusion. There are a few posts here about how not that the ipad has a native touchpanel symbol the Crestron solution may be less processor demanding, but it looks like the commandfusion solution will almost always have more "iPadness" to it. Swiping, scrolling, gestures, etc.

I am told that 5 iPads in a LARGE project concurrently connected to the system may be the limit of CommandFusion, but I am not really sure. Then of course there is always the new found speed and horsepower of the the MC3 that might help in accommodating more iPads. --- In Crestron@..., "lunartech" <lunartech@...> wrote:

Hi, this might help.

Do all graphics on subpages, ie crestrons demo projects, set to join 0 if you like. Then set the subpages not to scale on rotation. then none of your buttons will either. /Brad --- In Crestron@..., "xsdesignstudios" <xsdesignstudios@...> wrote:

Have you discovered the Anchoring option in VTPro?
Open the Properties tab and select an item on the page, you will see an anchoring option in the properties tab that allows you to deal with the rotation issues to some extent. On a recent foray into it myself I found that setting a sub page: Left=No, Top=No, Right=Yes, Bottom=Yes FixedWidth=Yes, FixedHeight=Yes AND having a sub page 748px wide X 518px high set 400px from top and 10px from left *just* about centers the sub page in portrait mode BUT it slides it to the right edge of the page, to me preferable as they can use their thumb to operate cursor controls close to the edge of the page. I placed a main nav strip horizontally at the top of the page and a footer at the bottom but there is still a big gap between top nav and the sub page in portrait, however in landscape you wind up with a big gap to the left and right of the sub page. I hate it but what else can you do? While it has its own set of shortcomings I still think CommandFusion slays Crestrons answer to the iPad! Seriously, no develop in landscape mode? No horizontal scrolling lists? C'mon Crestron! I could be dead wrong about this but, I'm not so sure about 30 iPads on a single processor with CommandFusion. Seeing as how the EISC limit is around 30 or so, having 30 S+ direct sockets may prove fallible if too many are in use at one time, it would be a real suckfest to run into this problem late in the project. I just had to use an iPad and download to it, rotate the screen, swear, update "Anchor" settings, repeat...

It was annoying but now I atleast have a template that I can reuse. -andy --- In Crestron@..., "xsdesignstudios" <xsdesignstudios@...> wrote:

Thanks for the replies guys.
CommandFusion is not an option this late in the game. For one I am not going to mess with having an issue with more than 5 iPads at once. The job is not using 3 series processors so I cannot afford to waste days at a time figuring out in the end that it won't work and having to start from scratch. Secondly, I know about anchors but all that gives me is the protrait size on a landscape page so I have unused space all over the place. From what I am hearing it looks like I am boned and need to develop it in portrait and have excess space on the sides.... |
I wish Crestron would come out with an update to designing for iPad in VTPROe... I feel like it's not even worth messing with until I can start my design in landscape mode. I don't really trust or want to get involved with CommandFusion, although I hear it works well.

To make me happy all they would need to do is let me chose to make pages in landscape, portrait, or both, and lock the orientation if I'm only using one of them. --- In Crestron@..., "xsdesignstudios" <xsdesignstudios@...> wrote:

At least with CF, we could get creative with other communications options - like aggregating the serial streams through another processor or even a PC. The CF protocol is really strait-forward. Hi, the software lets you add more than 99 ipad natives, I do not know if even expanding the memory you'll get!

Fortunately I have multiple processors to use. I have 5, just going to land 6 on each one.

I used the same solution, but even a bit further: For every page I wanted to create, I made 2 subpages, one with the actual source chosen, and one to choose sources. The biggest subpage had a resolution of 768 x 768 The other one had a resolution of 236 x 768 (1004 - 768 = 236!) Well, the biggest one only fits on the whole width of the ipad. The other one has to be placed left or right. Then in anchor, select the following: Fixed Height Fixed Width (this makes the subpage not to stretch while rotating) Anchor one to the left, the other one to the right. It is a bit difficult while programming, as you will see both subpages over each other, but when rotated, they will be next to each other. Not that much of calculating where buttons will go when you rotate! --- In Crestron@..., "aussplus" <solutionav@...> wrote:
