Crestron Lighting (CLX) interfaces with DMX

Hi All,
App:? Theater/PAC - Need to have a DMX Console control ~6 channels of Crestron lighting (probably CLX) I'll have an RMC4+Keypads with a stand-alone program for local Keypad Control, Presets etc.
Scope: DMX Console needs to send trigger commands that I'll program scenes for, and direct load control of the CLX loads.

The DMX can/will be ethernet-based...

Do I need hardware to interface these? or is there a Logic Module/TCP connection setup that I can use?

Hi,

probably not of much help, but i?ve successfully used the SACN-modules for sending DMX via Ethernet, but not yet for receiving.

However, looking at the modules, it seems as if it should be possible to receive as well.

?

Cheers,

Thorsten

Yeah the SACN device is for having a processor directly control a DMX network via Ethernet.
I need to have the DMX Controller (Lighting Console) send commands and receive FB to my processor. basically my CLX loads would be a slave to the DMX console...

Hi Chris,

Apologies if I’m repeating anything already said, but isn’t the CG-DMX-512-B what you want here?

It has DMX in and connects via an ISC symbol.

All the best,
Oliver

In looking at the demo program for the CG-DMX512, it *seems* that it is designed for Controlling DMX loads - i.e. Crestron processor is the master/controller.
In our setup Crestron (more specifically the CLX lighting loads) while operating independantly thru CBD KPDs for basic control, are to be a *Slave* to the Main lighting console/Master. The Console is the tell us what to do as an override to the basic programming...

How about osc from the console

That product has both a DMX OUT for control and a DMX IN for receiving channel data (from your console).

You just wouldn’t connect the OUT.

Being in the VJ/ lighting community i dont understand why you cannot connect this as artnet over ip or use osc for triggers

I guess that may be an option - but it would be helpful if you could spell it out?

I'm guessing the DMX console /may/ be DMX-512 out only, so what device should be used to convert serial DMX to Artnet over IP, and then how does that IP stream get consumed by the Crestron processor?? When you say OSC do you mean the Open Sound Control protocol?? I'm not aware of any Crestron modules for that (we did support it for a project and it was a horrible thing to implement).

Or you could:
Console --(3 core DMX cable)--> CG-DMX-512 --(Serial cable)--> Crestron processor/ISC symbol/Logic --Cresnet--> CLX lighting

It may be more low-brow compared to Artnet, but it "feels" a lot simpler to implement?

The initial post says ?The DMX can/will be ethernet-based...“.

That implies that the console might be able to send the commands directly via an IP-based protocol and doesn?t need to be converted.

It might be even simpler that the console is able to send out some sort of trigger-events directly to a TCP/Client/Server on the Crestron processor.

But it would be good to get some more information on the capabilities of the console.

?

Cheers,

Thorsten

Ollie, I think that this looks like the right solution, thanks!
The Console has ethernet jacks but I don't think that they integrate with its DMX controls so a traditional XLR-type connection would likely be the right stuff.
Do you or any others know of a good module for this application, or should I just get the protocol and figure out the handful of commands/FB that I need??

TIA!

I think you need to gather some more information on the console and how it is communicating – i understand that?s already there and you “just” need to interface with it?

DIN-SACN-DMX (AKA Enttec DIN-ETHERGATE) set sACN or Art-Net output to match the corresponding universe output of the Console -> CG-DMX-512, etc, etc, etc...

The DIN-SACN-DMX is actually a Enttec DIN-ODE-MK2.

@Thorsten - sorry, my eyes must have skimmed right past that important bit of info!
