Apple TV Audio issues

Hi All,
Thought I would share recent experience with AppleTV audio issues to see if anyone might have an idea for solution (He asks expecting the answer no!...:) )

My daughter and I have be going thru all the Marvel movies, chronologically, with Disney+ on the AppleTV - I can't believe how many movies there are!!!
***? Every so often we'll start a title and will get all the music/effects audio but No Dialog channel. Some titles are fine, others have this issue. ***

Our setup:
Apple TV 4K (Set to 1080p)?
Fed to:? Digital Media DMC-HD-DSP - EDID 'Consumer 1080p60 3D HBR' - This provides for up to 8-channel discrete audio formats, but should not allow ATMOS formats
DMC-CO-HD Fed to:? ?RMC/Samsung TV? and HDMI output to a Crestron XSP surround processor?

I have ruled out the XSP as the root. It seems to be something in the AppleTV or the DM Input card (DMC-HD-DSP), since when the problem occurs, the only solution to *fix* it is to send the DMRESETSLOT command to the input card (input 3).
This resolved the solution immediately, every time.?

I have seen these kinds of granular audio issues (issues with a specific title) with AppleTV over the last few months and am looking to come up with a solution or some 'self-healing' code solution.?
I certainly can fix this easily for myself on my own system, but when it happens to a client, they won't know what to do, except blame Crestron, the integrator, you personally, etc., etc....

Thoughts, ideas??? TIA!!

Chris,

Have you tried rebooting just the Disney+ App? I’ve had similar issues and rebooting the app solves it too.?

Hey Kevin!!
How you doing?? We really should connect, being neighbors and all!!? I'll send you an email

But for the general audience, What's the secret to rebooting the Disney+ app??? the only thing that I can see to do is log out and back in again - Is there another secret that I'm missing?

TIA!!

Chris,

I assume he means forcing the app to close, pretty much just as you would on an iPhone or iPad when you run into an app that's in a bad state:

Yes, Geoff, that’s what I meant.

The trick will be figuring out which button Crestron Home has mapped to the TV/Home button, if any. ?I haven’t found one yet.

Deleting, then reinstalling the app has cleared up buggy AppleTV issues for me

Now that I think about it, though, I don’t think I’ve ever seen an IR code for TV/Home. ?Even when you learn a remote into the AppleTV (This is what I do with SIMPL so I can full playback controls.) Apple doesn’t ask for a TV/Home button. :(?

Like others have said, it's likely from the AppleTV, not Crestron. I've seen the same issue with AppleTV (Netflix app) and Pioneer AV receiver setup. Dialog channel missing from the speakers.

We've always had to change the Pioneer DSP mode to get the dialog back

Yeah, it's definitely on the AppleTV side. Ultimately, when I DMRESETSLOT, it essentially drops the connection and restarts the HotPlug so that it resync's the connection.?
Ahh, the Digital Age!!? I said it back in 2005 - "the Digital Age means....? ?Nothing Works...."

Unfortunately, the recommended article, which was great, Missed a detail about FORCE CLOSING apps. it mentioned 2xClicking the HOME button, but that just toggles from the home screen to the screen saver...
I found out from another article that you need to 2xClick the 'TV/Home' Button (the button with the TV icon on it). this will bring up all the open Apps and you can swipe right/left to select and swipe up to force close. Swipe functions of coourse are generally not available to us with IR, CEC or some/Most? IP integration...

In a related story, I just started using the Apple TV Remote App on my iPhone, just for service and when I have to add/change logins, etc.? It's a Huge improvement over just using the Nav Pad controls...

BTW, the?Apple TV Remote App?has the 'TV/Menu' button on it and allows for swiping, so it is very helpful. It connects to the Apple TV via wifi connection on the local network to the AppleTV...

By chance have you figured out the URL scheme to open that app from the Crestron App?

Don't know but that would be a fantastic feature!!
G-search seemed to indicate that you used to be able to use 'remote://' but that it no longer works. Would love it if there was a reliable way to do it....
