DM8x8 - all 5 room boxes have problems?

i was asked to look at a small boardroom programmed in Studio by local dealer
basically CP3N, DM, 2 displays, 3 table tops, PC, (2) 760 TP's (all Crestron on CP3N subnet)
DM has 2 4K HDMI input cards & 3 DM 4K cards, 1 output card w/hdmi downmix to amp
room boxes are all 100 type with POE from Crestron switch
when i run DM tools, i see 1 TT box & 1 display box & PC input - other 3 don't show up
updated DM frame firmware & devices i could see
2nd display box doesn't see display hdmi from display - tried another hdmi cable - same
PJ - can't see room box in tools, seems to have power, power cycling didn't change anything
TT box that shows up doesn't show any input, but does register hot sync on gui
i can't believe all 5 room boxes have failed?
heading back on Tuesday with a couple of POE injectors and local display on rack - bringing all room boxes to rack to check them

Bring jumpers and connect the endpoints to the chassis at the rack. Could have bad terminations

Also studio....ewww

i'm not fond of studio either, but it was working when installed, so i am told
has gradually lost functionality over time as the room boxes have failed
various people have tried to work around the issues, but i found all cabling (that i could see) to still be correct
it has a clearone system on the table now, not sure what was there originally
i only see audio from the DM to the amp, no DSP
client says table audio goes to PC??

moved all room boxes to rack - they work
moved output boxes back into conference room - didn't show up in tools
tried local injector still didn't work
moved all cables back to original positions and then all of a sudden they were there and working - magic?
only 1 box under the table showed up in tools
hdmi on flip top seemed to be broken - bypassed and hdmi worked
moved the poe supply to the other 2 to another port - now they worked
hdmi broken on another
so now everything works and i didn't really do anything
need the female/male hdmi adapters for the table tops

I have seen some cables/connectors where the contact surface is not quite up to spec and a slight wiggle will make/break the connection enough to make DM unhappy (remember DM is more sensitive than Ethernet).

?

E.g. at my house originally I used handmade patch cables with crimped ends from the DM16x16 in the rack to the patch panel on the wall. Worked beautifully for months ¨C then one stopped working ¨C just barely nudged it and DM Link came back¡ A few weeks later a different output, same problem¡ nudge it to the left (not even unplugging it)¡ link came back.

?

After a while I replaced them with factory made patch cables (mostly because the Monoprice SlimRun Cat6A made the umbilical from cart-on-wheels to wall much thinner) and haven¡¯t seen the problem since. My best guess is that as the temperatures changed and things expanded/contracted the contacts shifted enough relative to each other to no longer be happy.

?

In other words ¨C don¡¯t discount the cables even if they¡¯ve been working ¡°fine¡± for however long¡

need the female/male hdmi adapters for the table tops

Had many problems with Easycrimp RJ45 connectors. ?DM on DMPS¡¯s seems to not like open ended RJ45s. ?Any slightly movement and they work then stop then work. ?All cut off and old fashioned better quality RJ45s fitted.

Edited

i did wiggle them, and they were unplugged/replugged many times, never worked until they did
i'm wondering if there was something wrong with the Crestron POE switch supplying power?
moving the POE power to another port fixed the 2 table top xmitters

anyone know the part # for the hdmi male/female that is mounted in the bottom of the table plate?

Those are the work of the devil (IMO). There is no reason for them to exist.

?

The connectors I referenced were good old standard (though not sure ¡°better quality¡± would apply to theses ¡ can¡¯t remember if the ones in question in my case were from Fry¡¯s (RIP) or Monoprice¡ªbut I had never had a problem with either source except in DM applications.

Similar Isuue with the connectors. My LAN Cable test (tried 2 different testers) Said cables checked out good. Then just replaced both connectors and it all worked.

PJ failed already
asked client to move POE for PJ to another port...

Just a pin mapper right, not a certification?? I think a lot of installs get down without certification, pins out right but still isn't 'right'.

client tried moving POE cable to another port on the switch - PJ still not working
he is going to run another cat cable to the PJ just to test (it's fairly easy to do) before reterminating all the cat6 cables

client ran new cat cable to PJ, still not working
asked client to source another POE switch
i can't think of what else could be causing things to be intermittent
all boxes worked locally on short cables & my POE injector

Mark,
I can't remember, did you try locally powering the RMCs?

client tried POE injector at back of DM for PJ box - still won't work
swapped box from Ricoh that was working, still won't work with PJ
so, new cable, different POE
i have asked to keep that config & reboot the DM
i'm at a lack of things to try...
if not working, then Crestron out, something else in

Just a shot in the dark but my (4) DM-MD8X8 units and a DM-MD16X16 unit all stopped working until I replaced the installed Ethernet card with the upgraded CPU3 card. No problems after that. Prior to that, the units would continuously go offline and could not exist on our LAN. The 16X16 was upgraded and now works perfectly. The 8X8 units were taken off the public LAN and only exist on a local network within the cabinets. I have not had any issues with them since getting them off the network.

i am going to try reseating the output card
i can move it to another slot for testing, but back in slot1 for the pgm to work (no rewriting)
the DM is on the CP3N subnet, so just the DM and 2 TP's
it has to be the output card or DM in general

I was suggesting a local power supply (i.e. WallWart). I'm wondering if there's something messed up with the POE powering of the RMC

the client tried a POE injector at the DM, not the room box, still didn't work
i have some P/S but they all have connectors, the RMC-4K-100-C-1G has a phoenix connector
client has tried new cat5, maybe 25' run, so not long
are these boxes that finicky on POE from DM?
