Getting other than English text on a touch panel.

Client is requesting to include a Japanese translation of the text on a TS-1070 touch panel.
My first thought was to use an English to Japanese translator, copy that into a Word Doc then use Gimp to modify to a PNG then use that image in VTPRO.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

For these cases, I have clients who want 3 - 4 languages in their panels, I use indirect texts, with custom modules with JSON or XML.

You can also use multiple serial send or similar

When select the required language, the corresponding text is displayed.

Kind regards

I did an interface that could be changed between German French Spanish and English. A button on the tech page would switch between the languages.

I took my English text and translated with Google translate. You have to be careful with proper context etc but it works. The logic was simple¡..just send the proper language text to the serial joins by whatever means you choose.

If using a MSEND how is language converted. I wasn't aware that the properties included language change. I can convert text using Google Translator and using Copy/Paste into a MSEND but that loses the conversion. Would be nice if Crestron allowed true HTML within indirect text and not limit to certain characteristics.?
Are there published modules that allow converting using JSON or XML already?

Check our Answer ID 5264 - that explains how international characters must be represented in SIMPL and/or Smart Graphics.
I'm sure there are tools that will encode strings into their UNICODE representations for you.
You also need to ensure you're using a font that *supports* the characters you need (Arabic, Chinese, Hebrew, Cyrillic etc.) - if you're on Smart Graphics, you'll need one of the "International" themes for that.
As for driving the strings - you could use an MSEND per language as a basic option, or look at creating a translation manager, though all that does is make things easier to maintain.? We have a library that looks at a directory, picks up any language files (which are essentially just XML key-value collections) and then your program deals in keys, rather than text.? So "LANG_HOME" in en-GB converts to "Home" and I believe in en-US one would convert that to "Crib" ;-)
All the best,
Oliver

i understand the SIMPL side, but i have to quote on a job with a UC-CX100-T engine, how does teams switch between languages i.e. English/French
the requirement is to be able to switch on any page?

I was able to switch between English and Japanese by using Microsoft Translator, pasting those results into?
,pasting the string literal into a MSEND and setting Parameter Coding Type to UTF-16, then convert touch panel to International Theme and set all fonts to "Arial Unicode MS" then assign indirect text from the output of each MSEND to a ABUF and selected language would be the trigger to enable ABUF.
I can send you my example code if you need additional help.

The UC-xx-TEAMS product functionality and access are basically locked down by Microsoft.? The UC engine is really just a compact Windows computer running the Teams application with the touch panel running remote desktop.? Setup is exactly as one would do on their desktop computer, with some additional Crestron related settings.

?

If you are in the Teams app, the way to change languages is through Teams user settings, click on user profile picture (upper right) > settings > general > language.

?

If you have custom pages defined you can manage the language in simpl on your external processor.? There is a ghost of a chance that a ¡°change language¡± packet could be sent to the teams engine, but I am betting the UC engine will not allow that.? I am also betting there is no way of determining which language is in use by Teams, so if you have custom pages there will be a two-step process i.e. change Teams then change custom pages.? Last, but not least, is getting the system to revert to the standard language, almost certainly impossible to automate . . .

?

The Teams team at TB is pretty good, though, so best bet is to check with them.
