Non Crestron Thermostats with Pyng/HomeOs

 

Hi,
I recently converted my personal Crestron system from custom programming I built up over many years to HomeOS3 with a cp4r. ?On the whole I like the setup and it¡¯s a far better user experience than I¡¯d find time to create in html5, albeit with less flexibility. ?
One area of frustration is with my old system I had control of my nest thermostats (they came with the house) and I¡¯d like to get that control back with HomeOS. ?I looked at the extension sdk and could give that a go but before I start down that path I wanted to see if anyone had suggestions for non-Crestron thermostats that they¡¯ve got working with HomeOS. ?If there¡¯s something other than a CHV that works I¡¯d consider switching out the nests.

Hi Karl,

I think that you have 2 options:
- Use your old processor and make a BacNet Comunication between them (easy way)
- Build a extension driver for the nest thermostats?

(3rd option is to replace the nest)

I did a little testing with python-nest and BAC0 and was able to get something basic working from HomeOS.? ?I managed to?pass the current temp and so with some time i'm sure i could build a more complete bridge.?

In the meantime i started looking for replacement thermostats.? I like the look of the Siemens RDS120-B which can talk bacnet/ip over wifi.? Anyone used them???

I asked about Nest a few times fairly recently and I got response after response about how it wasn¡¯t worth any one¡¯s time to bother with it for a slew of reasons...
 

And I agree with all those responses. Fu3k the cloud. Only good for repetitive income selling to stubborn but rich clients.
