Dish Network

Anyone out there using the Dish Network IP module notice it no longer working as of this morning?

I use IR and a few buttons on the IP. Min is broken now also.

What happened?

I¡¯m not sure. ?It literally happened over night. ?It¡¯s frustrating as it¡¯s been working for years flawlessly. ?It¡¯s my biggest gripe with Crestron when this stuff stops working because there is literally NO ONE who can help. ?I tried to reach out to the Dish integration team but there is no contact information and I won¡¯t even bother with the regular tech support. ?It¡¯s just another instance of stuff breaking with no good reason why and no easy solution to fix.

If you view it in debugger it looks like there may be some sort of authentication issue. ?Weird though because the pin entry setup in the module still appears to function...just no control. ?I can¡¯t wait to hear from customers the week before xmas bitching about their sat boxes not working...between this, Nest and Sonos I may as well just be doing RTI for some of these people. ?All three work fine in RTI land...

Anyone have some insight on how to go about getting this fixed? ?Crestron gave me the expected ¡®not our problem¡¯ and while Dish has an entire website dedicated to touting their custom integration there is no way to contact them or reach their tech support. ?The last six months has been about bouncing from one formerly reliable module to the next. ?I can¡¯t be the only one who gets frustrated that as they die off they are just never looked at again. ? First it was Nest, then Sonos, now this.

I had two systems break on me today as well. Anyone have a fix yet?

For Dish. I think IR is the only option currently. Not sure why it stopped; could it have something to do with flash change dish may have made? (No info they did, just coincides with end of year timing of flash going away.)

I managed to get hold of their ¡°general manager of custom integration¡±. ?His name is Frank DeFilippis he responded to me one time in a very Crestron way.

¡±We¡¯re on this. ?Think it¡¯s an SSL Cert issue. ?Hope to have a fix ASAP. Thanks for reaching out¡±

I would encourage you to send him an email. ?A tiny bit of pressure to fix it would be beneficial. ?Send me a PM and I¡¯ll give you his email address...

On another note, I tried to give the CCD a shot as it seems to be quite a bit newer. ?I don¡¯t believe it works either but it¡¯s hard to tell. ?There isn¡¯t any documentation on how to get the driver to invoke the PIN menu for pairing. ?I tried everything but once again there is no help from Crestron nor any from Dish. ?It really bugs the hell out of me that so much of this stuff is just broken with no one willing to take responsibility or provide support. ?My personal system is slowly going from no IR bugs at all to needing quite a few. ?I have several Dish, Sonos, Nest people who¡¯s systems used to be nicely integrated but I just have no answer for them any more...Crestron used to be about solutions...

It appears the Dish Hopper module needs to continually reauthenticate.? I was to get the Hopper to respond if the same command was sent twice (e.g. Guide) within a second.? ? The first command fails with a 401 Unauthorized response and the SIMPL+ module then automatically reauthenticates.? If you then resend the command before the Hopper or Joey remotely disconnects, the command is accepted with a 200 OK.? Wait too long, the command fails with a 401 Unauthorized.? The fix for now is to ask user to push the button twice.? Ugly, but? I didn't see any obvious work arounds after looking in a little more detail today.

I¡¯d call that broken. Looks like we are at IR again until/if Dish fixes it in their end with firmware.

I remember seeing the dish IP control years ago being shown and it looked super cool. I thought we could have two way com with it; thought we would have direct change dial. But that never happened. All we got was IR emulation and now even that¡¯s broken. WTH

So I just tried this at two different locations and couldn¡¯t reproduce those results. ?No matter how fast or repeatedly the command was sent I could not get either to respond. ?A bunch of information in debugger about user name and password along with some other information but definitely no response. ?It would really benefit everyone if you would send your issues to Frank DeFilippis at Dish. ?It sounds like he¡¯s trying to get it working but needs some information from the field to expedite the process. ?Send me a PM and I¡¯ll give you his email address.

I have been using the IP module since Dish started doing the CEDIA custom install thing and after seeing this thread I keep waiting for it to break but it still works.? I am running it on an MC3, so firmware is really old, and I have not recently recompiled the program so that may have something to do with it.

?

Maybe try using 1.502 ish firmware and compile using 4.11 and old databases to see if it is on Crestron side . . .

I reached out to Frank @ Dish and made him aware of the number of systems that were "broken" for me. As AVMaster mentioned, Dish is aware and working on finding a solution with Crestron. At the very least, he asked for all the receiver IDs that I was servicing so they can prioritize pushing a patch out once available. I would encourage all to reach out to him so we can emphasize how big of a problem this is.

C4 has an automated message on their support line about it. They are recommending IR for now. Apparently it is a widespread problem.?

Got a call from Dish Custom Integration team today. They advised they are working on the issue and suggested a couple of things:

1.) I was not aware there is a secret menu to assign a static IP on the unit itself. I know most of us get around this by allocating IP by MAC address binding. Here are the steps to get to advanced menu for IP Settings, try setting static IP, DNS, etc. instead of MAC binding:
Go to Menu>Settings>Internet then go to the advanced tab (Skip this last step on the Wally)
On a 40.0 remote press: Recall, Recall, Play
On a 50 or 52 remote: Recall, Recall, Play/Pause

2.) I'm currently using module 1.1 on the application market and they recommended I upgrade to the 2.0 module available at??As far as I know, this module cannot be used on anything other than a Crestron Home setup. Can anyone confirm?

Please update here if any of the above recommendations work for you guys. Look forward to your feedback.

The CCD can be used and it was part of my troubleshooting when control failed. ?If they are aware of the problem and ¡®working on it¡¯ then they know that the V2 is similarly non functional. ?There is unfortunately no documentation outside of the SIO in the driver as to how to invoke the pairing process. ?I defined every user attribute to see if there was some hidden knowledge but no dice. ?I tried every button but nothing would make the pairing screen pop up. ?I even tried using the app to display the pairing menu then entered the code into the CCD but that was a dead end also. ?I hate that the drivers all have these secret ins and outs that aren¡¯t properly documented. ?Every time I use one I feel like I¡¯m on some sort of treasure hunt to figure out exactly what the thing needs to function. ?No one at Crestron knows and no one at Dish felt compelled to answer. ?

Bump

Anyone hear anything new yet?

I received a call from dish integration team earlier this week informing me that they will be pushing out a new beta firmware in a couple of days. I have not seen an improvements in any of my deployments as of yet.?

Bump. Anyone have any updates/fix for this yet?

I received the same call last week.? Beta coming...soon.? No update since.

So here is what I just received from one of the Dish guys on the issue at hand:

¡°As Frank was saying there is an issue with the Crestron pairing process in that Crestron stores the paring information on the controller and they do not provide a way to easily clear it.? From working with Crestron, they have a utility to clear the cache on the controller that will clear the old pairing information and allow a new paring.? You would need to contact Crestron support for this process.? The other option is to use a new Hopper as it¡¯s paring information will not be on the controller.? We have been working with Crestron to fix this issue.¡±

Any ideas what he¡¯s getting at? ?I¡¯m assuming that the ¡°utility¡± he mentions is Toolbox? ?Does anyone have any ideas where this ¡°pairing information¡± may be located? ?I can get the CCD driver loaded but can never get it to display a pairing PIN...
