BluOS Media Player?
Not yet Mark,
I'm very curious to see how these pan out as an alternative to MMS. I really like the app and the Crestron integration does at first glance appear to be spot on now they have integrated SG. My last couple of projects have had these as player only (no Crestron control) so unfortunately I've not yet had a chance to try these out with regard to Crestron integration. -s |
开云体育You are correct on the Pandora and Apple Music.? Wish there was more options than the PITB Sonos.? Have a client that I was looking to use this, but the Pandora might be the killer.? They wanted Sonos as that is what they used in their condo.? Their main house they have an MMS-3e with Crestron and they wanted the carriage house isolated from the main house.? Sucks that this doesn’t at least have Pandora for a service.? Heck, I thought Pandora was a standard for any streaming player now a days. ? Pat M ? From: <[email protected]> on behalf of ckangis <chris@...> ? Unless their website is not up to date, it doesn't seem to support PANDORA! |
The Crestron integration feels good, but it is the lack of services that make this product unusable for most.? No Pandora, No SiriusXM, No Apple Music, No Control for Spotify (* Spotify Connect only), No Control for Roon (Roon Connect only).? Using Tidal's verbage Connect - meaning that your BluOS Player can be selected as a device (Endpoint) in the native application (Roon, Tidal, Spotify).? You can at least play/pause/skip spotify and roon with the Crestron Media player object, but selecting music/playlist/favorites nope gotta open the app for that......
This product really only hits on the Hi-Fi crowd that uses Tidal, Qobuz, or (CD Quality) Amazon Music.? The BluOS Media Player object integration feels easier to drive than an MMS, but I don't have both side by side to compare. I too am in search of the Music Streaming holy grail for Crestron, and a Crestron Home implementation for anything but Sonos is desperately needed. Most of my clients tell me that they miss their Audio Request systems. |
Hi Mark,
The BluOS play queue grows with each content item you select (whether that's a single track, an album, playlist etc.)? This is the BluOS API behaviour, so the SG modules are being consistent with the other BluOS clients (mobile, desktop, etc.) We haven't implemented grouping of players yet, but that's been requested by Lenbrook (NAD/Bluesound parent company) so that's what I'll be looking at next. Best regards, Oliver |
I don't represent Lenbrook in any capacity, but I'll forward this thread on to the right people there as I think they'll really appreciate the feedback on services etc.
I've also mentioned the SG integration to Crestron to see if there's any way we could get it into Crestron Home - the challenge here is that, currently, both Sonos and Autonomic support are baked into the Crestron Home code, as opposed to there being a modular interface that we can implement.? Having said that, I understand there is some parity between the baked in code and the SG MediaPlayer implementation, so... fingers crossed. |

Are you guys developing it for Lenbrook Oliver ??

Hi Zac,
The support for ffwd/rew/track position is very dependant on the service/content - but there IS support in principle. i can’t explain what happens inside BluOS, but I’m told that what the OS can offer to clients (like the mediaplayer) is constrained by what the underlying service offers. ?Some don’t support “random access” and some don’t provide data like total track length which the track position thumb requires. The upside here is that, as the BluOS system is updated with richer support, the client should automatically benefit. All the best, Oliver |
i posted this in the other thread
========== i have a playlist in Tidal with 3400 tracks when i select the playlist in the 2.4 BluOS Crestron modules i get 966 tracks if i select the playlist in the BluOS app, i get 2400 tracks i never get the full 3400 i also find the shuffle isn't that random ========== can it load an entire large playlist? on my MMS i can load 3 playlists with a total of 5185 tracks and it works perfectly can anyone test this with large playlists?? |
开云体育I don?t want to question your way of usage, just curious: For what purpose do you have a playlist of 3400 tracks? My understanding of a playlist is that it is a selection of tracks based on different criteria (mood, style, artist, etc.). ? A 3400 tracks playlist sounds to me as being a container for just everything… ? Cheers, Thorsten ? Not in Tidal, but I have smart playlists setup in JRiver Media Center for things like "rock music with 4 or more stars" that have thousands of tracks.? Put it on random play and you don't tend to hear the same song too often... Geoff On Tue, Nov 3, 2020 at 8:10 AM Thorsten K?hler <thorsten.koehler@...> wrote:

Okay, Fast Forward about 4 years from the Last post here.
I've integrated the BlueOS Node with SMPLE Several times now and LOVE it, and the customers are getting used to it quick.
Module was free, and one of the easiest Smart Graphics to Integrate Tie the CRCP, and CRCP_FB and pretty much done.
However, Now We've put One (well a NAD 4Zone BlueOS), and on Crestron Home, it seems to be almost inoperable. After you spend 150? on the License (I'm really trying to not fly into a rant about licensees and Crestron Home - But its hard not to).?
You get "Play" "Pause" "Track Next" and "Track Back".? There is a BASIC number pad, that I'm told shortcuts can be added to, and that's It.
Can't even pick Favorites. ?
Why is something so Great in SMPL, so Horrible in Crestron Home... Or am I missing something? |
Hi,
?
I wrote both the Media Player (SIMPL) integration and the Crestron Home module for BluOS.
?
Just on the point of driver licence costs in general (not the specifics of media device support), the frustration at paying for someone’s time, experience or skill to make your (presumably chargeable) work easier is hard for me to come to terms with. ?It would be great if Crestron wrote good, feature complete, drivers for every device and made them all free, but people must see that’s impractical - even with Crestron’s reasonably deep pockets (though not as deep as they once were).
?
Back to BluOS.
?
The code running behind both drivers is actually the same. ?We have a build that doesn’t include the CRPC wrappers but replaces them with the Crestron Home SDK hooks. ?So functionally - it /could/ be the same.
?
The problem is that Crestron Home doesn’t currently have any “media player” device type in the drivers SDK. ?What is in Crestron Home (Sonos, Autonomic, native Crestron) is all “baked in”. ?So - at the moment, we’re doing the best we can to fit a square peg into a round hole.
?
To boil that down to “play” and “pause” is unfair though. ?The driver provides you with a way to control transport, recall presets (functionally the same as Sonos but less visually appealing), set up routing in CH, control volume, and select inputs (eg for soundbar use with a TV). ?I know it’s not great, but it’s also not a trivial task to provide all of that. ?I made the media player module free because Bluesound donated some equipment to Ultamation, for which we are extremely grateful.
?
We are working with Bluesound on full media player support for Crestron Home, but there are a lot of technical hurdles to overcome to achieve that - we’re discussing those with Crestron. ?Rest assured, as soon as we’re able, the BluOS eco system will be fully supported in Crestron Home.
?
Your $150 - which I hope you only spent after you’d satisfied yourself the driver was worth using through the free trial mode - will give you that upgrade without additional cost (to Ultamation - I can’t speak for others) when we can deliver it.

To the point of the Driver Licenses...
(In all fairness I did express that it was a hypersensitive subject for me).
I have programmed Crestron for over 25 years, and purchased a fair share of Modules (and now Licenses).? And I do understand the importance of them, and of course people should be paid for their work.? I more than get it with SMPL, anyone can make the module, but not many want to, so they can purchase one.? However, you must admit that it takes a lot more than the Master Programmer, to do what you have done to create a Crestron Home driver.? You will say, Yeah that's my Point "... I know more, so I should get paid more for doing it...".? And you're NOT wrong, Doctors are paid more for their knowledge too.? My point is, We don't have a choice of what doctor we can use, and we can't Self-Medicate.? If I was to purchase a car, and wanted Leather Seats, I understand that that is an add-on (extra Product, extra Work). But now we are buying a car, and being told that if we want A "Driver's" Seat, you have to pay extra. And in the most cases (like? MyQ), "You must use this Company or you don't get a "Driver's" seat". No, this does not make my (presumably chargeable) work easier.? Pasting Modules was easy.? And with the programming time of Home vs. SMPL, our chargeable programming time may even come in less than the (4) Licenses (Pentair, MyQ, Bond Bridge, and Bromic Heaters-keep in mind Bromic requires a license for each type of device) I have to purchase to make the system work.
Like I said this is a rant, I know that licensing is the way of the future (Quicken, Microsoft365), but you can only keep everyone over a barrel for so long.? For the second week this month I was told "...Fine, I'll just use 4 apps instead of 1...".? Crestron Home, is a Smart Home integration system, that makes integration painful.? If Crestron (and its partners) nickel and dime everyone, and the end result doesn't look good, customers are going to go somewhere else.? Tell me no one has ever told you "My Alexa is Easier".
?
Back to the BluOS,
I say Tomato you say Control Transport.? It showed two buttons at the bottom of the Control page.? One had Transport controls the other was a Keypad.? If you are saying that the Keypad is how you recall the presets, then I wasn't that far Off, was I? Less appealing than Sonos, That can't be fun to say.
I'm sorry, and I digress.? C'est la vie, whatever it is.. It is. Crestron Home Can't support it well, then it can't support it well.? I just wish I knew that before I told my company how great BluOS has been on SMPL, and how surly it must work with home.
?
Finally
I wrote my last post last night after prepping a home for the Home owner to arrive today.
My Techs did use the Trial version to make sure that they could integrate the systems, and get the system working.? With the homeowner coming in and the hardware in the Rack, they purchased the License.
I met with the owner today, and honestly tried to sell him on the GUI, and how well they did work together when he picked media using the app.
The short of it is... He was correct when he said "... We had no business using his new system as a Test-Lab, and that we should have done more research to make sure that we had a Guest-Friendly system...". I spend the rest of the afternoon //CommentingOut the (4) BluOS Players, and simply using the?Vast?(sorry, I'm sarcastic when irritated) music streams of the NAX.
I'm pretty Certain we can put the NAD(4)BluOS in a SMPL system, so not all is lost, save the programming time we can't charge for, and the License Fee (Oh no, here I go again.?

These kinds of things are why I have not embraced HOME, CCDs, etc. You have to expect that the thing you want or expect to do cannot be done, until you prove otherwise...I don't have time for that.
With SMW I know that I can usually do a work-around if I need to when something is missing or misbehaving...?
I'm also not thrilled with modules built with S# because even if I had the source I'm not yet skilled in it, and I almost never have the source so it's a moot point. It's frustrating when you want to make a tweek and you can't because the location to adjust is embedded in the CLZ.
?
That said, I have happily bought and successfully used modules from ControlWorks, ControlConcepts, Oliver and others. And I look forward to paying a reasonable price for features that help me be more productive.
I do think that we need to find a better way to marry the old module format (SMW, S+) with a way for developers to make the profit that they deserve.

Right now, many things are 80% solutions that get you most of the way there but leave one hanging without a way to refine things to the finish line. |
