3 Series Comparison

Scraping the very bottom of the barrel, I have a system that is supposed to get a CP4…which isn’t supposed to arrive for another 5 months. ?My temporary options are an MC3 or a RMC3. ?All things aside, which of these is the superior processor from a number crunching standpoint? ?I’ve used a hundred MC3’s over the years but very few RMC3. ?The demands aren’t going to be anything dramatic but I was curious what the performance difference tween these 2 units might be…thoughts?

Hands down - Use the RMC3 as it is a fantastic processor. I own 2 of them and it runs my house.

Steer far away from the MC3 - it is junk.

RMC3. ? Have one running in my House. Runs without any need to reboot ?

RMC 3, wish I had more than one!

Agreed, RMC3 (with exception to ports and gateway)...
The MC3 was kind of an interim processor bridging between 2- and 3-series, i.e. the first chassis with the 3-series tech. It started its life as a transitional processor in the Prodigy line (PMC3), then was brought out as the MC3 for standard programming (though you could put SMW programs in the PMC3 after a couple years).
I would guess that the specs on both chassis are the same/similar but the MC3 has had a number of issues over recent years...

RMC3 for sure, the MC3 is barely 3 series.

MC3 is more like 2.50 series (MC2.5)
??
Unless YOU NEED RCA jacks on your processor (lol) stick with the RMC3. I have never had one issue with a RMC3 processor.

I might add that the MC3 should have never seen the light of day.

I guess that’s the crux of my question…is there any hard info on the processing power between the 3 series units? ?Anecdotally speaking I’ve always thought that CP3/4 was about as snappy as it gets, with little if any difference stepping up to the AV/PRO units other than their obvious physical connections. ?In the last few years we’ve gone almost entirely back to 3 Series as I can’t remember the last time I have received a new 4 Series unit.?

There used to be a comparison chart floating around somewhere but I think it just listed the memory differences between the processors. I think it was an old Masters slide or something.?

The webpages for the MC3 and RMC3 are still available on the Crestron site. details like memory can be seen there...

I've just dropped it into the photos section but it doesn't mention processing.
MC3 is 2GB storage, RMC3 is 4GB

Agreed!...

The thing I find most troubling is that Crestron provides no mention of processor other than "3 Series". I have used every 3 Series available, and each one feels like it operates differently, and the MC3 is the worst performer.

But we cannot quantify those experiences other than referring to system ram, as that is the only metric Crestron provides us to compare (and IO too).

The PRO2 has been a top contender for my projects and has also given me zero issues. Before moving to the RMC3 for my house, I used the PRO2.

Mike -

I remember? reading somewhere that rmc3/dinap3 were 800mhz, CP3 1000 and pro3/AV3 1200mhz (mind blowing numbers).
