Crestron Sonos

I can't seem to get this integration done.? Is the fix for the Sonos 9.0 f/w working correctly?

I have not integrated Sonos before but I've done so successfully with Autonomics so I'm familiar with some of the basics.

I have a four device Sonos setup - f/w is 9.0.1.? TSW with f/w downloaded from TB and installed today.? RMC3 with f/w from TB downloaded and installed today.

I'm using the demo UI and SMW packet downloaded from Crestron.? I've upgraded all Sonos modules to v3.0 from 2.2.

I get "now playing" data (though it doesn't change from zone-to-zone) and I can control volume.? Now playing is showing from Zone 1 no matter what zone I change to even though each zone is playing something different.

Biggest issue right now is that on SG Media Player App on the right side of the screen only lists Sonos Favorites - I cannot get it to change to allow me to browse the music library or listen to Pandora, Spotify etc.? The only icon at the bottom of this "window" is the note with dashes to its left - pressing it just refreshes Favorites.? I think I should be seeing a Search icon and several others.

Ideas?? Anyone have working demo they might share?

Thanks.

The Sonos v3.0 modules are compatible Sonos' 9.0 firmware, but only if compiled with the latest Database.

I'm not sure what would cause the "Now Playing/Zone" issue you mentioned, but your description of the Browse List sounds like how the interface is supposed to work. In other words, you can't browse for music and the only options are to select from a pre-defined (on the Sonos app) list of favorites.

Answer ID 5710 has good information for getting started, including a demo program, but searching Online Help for "Sonos" will return a few other relevant articles.

If you cannot browse music that is an epic fail.

The SG media list only allows you to browse Sonos Favourites. This has nothing to do with Crestron and is all down to Sonos limiting their API. This is no different to Savant or Control 4. Until Sonos allows full access to their API this will not change. If you need Pandora the best thing to do is add the stations as Sonos Favourites. I think Sonos also limit the maximum number of Favourites to 30.

The musical note with dashes is the only icon you will see, and yes it's just a refresh.

The above issues bugs me too but once you explain it to clients most are pretty understanding.

As to your issues with zone duplication this sounds like a programming issue or some screwy-ness on the zone naming of the modules. I'm running V3 modules on my home system. Ensure the player names match exactly.

Thanks everyone for all the help.? I have the setup running now. ?

I recall the Sonos API issue when the Sonos - Crestron relationship was announced but I thought I had heard that the API was now opened up completely to Crestron.? Obviously I was wrong.

I can see how the existing platform would work for some users but for the specific client I am working with I don't think it will be sufficiently friendly.? They have a large digital library that they want to browse it.? Seems like this cannot be made to happen right now.

I think I'll transition them to Autonomics? - it has worked well for me. ?

Any other ideas?

MMS is a great solution and works well with the Media Player object.
The search function is still a bit screwy but it will give your client full browse functions.
If you are using the latest xx60 panels then you do have the option of the Sonos app as well.

Subject:?Re: Crestron Sonos
The latest firmware and modules exposes an underlined "sonos" text next tot the logo. This is a URL schema ?jump to full sonos app on the ?Tsw. Then there is a return path also. Crestron App works, too this way.

And now crestron has pulled the Sonos app from the TSW560.??
What the hell?

My issue with the Sonos app is that there is no way programmatically to drive the Sonos app to connect to a specific unit. You may only launch the app.?

Actually that isn’t the case. You can in fact launch the Sonos app in to a specific room if that is what you mean. The URL scheme is actually quite thorough allowing you to launch the app to a specific player and quite a few other handy tidbits. I have started using this method almost exclusively as it greaty reduces confusion from the end user with it launching directly to the expected zone rather than them selecting it manually. The Sonos app used to be intuitive, clean and easy to operate for the regular folk but It has morphed into something that at times can be quite confusing to operate. The Crestron integration was just costing us way to many headaches and return visits on otherwise solid systems...there isn’t a single installation where it hasn’t crashed or locked up enough times to cause more drama than I care to deal with. I posted the correct strings on Crestron Labs a year ago...it should be an easy search.

I love it.? I’ll take a look on labs.? FYI, apparently TB should update themselves.
