Polycom Realpresence Group series

I've never touched realpresence before, and just got a bunch of 500s
and 700s dumped on me with just under a month until install...

Is the crestron app mart module worth the price? Are there any other
modules available? How f'ed am I?

Price? The application market module for group series was free when I downloaded it and it works fine.?

To quote one of my boy-hood idols, "That's a joke, ah say, that's a
joke, son."

Most often, price is 'free' only before labor cost adjustments when
Crestron authored modules are involved. The reviews are this one
hardly encouraging.

One vote credited to 'works fine'.

The I2P module 'works', but when it comes to displaying the addressbook on
the panel there are some profound issues that vary in severity depending on
the version of firmware found in your codec. Both Polycom and Crestron
agree that this is a Polycom firmware issue.and to that end, Polycom has
decided that they cannot make the codec properly/fully comply with the
current API, so they have invented a whole new way to query the addressbook.
This will require new firmware from Polycom and a new module from Crestron
(or anyone else that wants to play with the new API commands). The release
of the 'new' Polycom firmware was at one point scheduled for mid-December
2014.not sure if that occurred, but I do know that the module that Crestron
was going to release to accompany that new Polycom firmware does not appear
to have been released. I'm not sure if that is because Polycom doesn't have
the firmware fully baked yet (my guess), or if Crestron doesn't have the
module ready to go yet. I was under the impression that it was more
Crestron waiting on Polycom.but a lot could have changed in the 6-8 weeks
since I last discussed the matter with the parties in question.

I had a lengthy discussion with Polycom (with a Crestron rep present),
regarding this issue back in November. I can forward additional detail if
you contact me off list. skaudleATsimplified-conceptsDOTcom

A new Group series FW was released in the last couple of weeks, but I don't specifically recall much in the way of API changes.? I did just browse it, though.

The issue¡at least the specific one I was dealing with¡may have only pertained to LDAP (global) addressbooks and the codec's inability to properly transmit the contents of that addressbook via its own API. A new command GLOBALDIR was going to be included in OS 4.2 (current at the time was 4.1.5) that was claimed to resolve the issue. If the new firmware has a new IRM that contains that new command, then perhaps the 'fix' has been released.

I don't have a programming spec yet, but know I'll need LDAP directory
dialing. The IRM I just downloaded details GLOBALDIR, so one half of
that problem may be solved.

It has worked perfect for me, but I am not doing any address book stuff. The group series API and onscreen GUI is very different then the HDX series. No more PIP you now have self view and a few other little odd things. If you have one you can play with great.?

The fun part about this module is that it downloads the entire global address book. I had an client using an AD and it had over 5000 entries.... this module tried to download them all... I disabled the address book from the module and wrote some code to search the directory instead

Has anyone been able to get the Global Directory to work in any way? In the same situation...

I was able to make the directory work but if you have a large directory it's pretty useless. I wrote a model that searches it instead.

Mathew Klucznyk

It all depends on the code/module you're using, the version of the Polycom OS in your codec, the directory in question,?and how the three?interact.? You may have entries missing, you may have blank spaces between entries (but all entries shown), complete failure, it might even work just fine...its pot luck. ?

Even various?builds of OS?4.1.5 exhibit different behavior.? And again, it can vary based on the individual directory you're working with.

Your best bet is to upgrade the codec to OS 4.2 and find/write a module that uses GLOBALDIR to query the directory.? Crestron was supposed to release a new module to coincide with the new OS...I don't believe that's?happened (yet), but short of rolling your own it might be worth hitting up the I2P department for some updated code.

Hey Steve and Mathew,

Thanks for the input. Yes the Polycom has been updated to the latest version, and the Crestron module does not seem to do what it should still. I can call Crestron to see if they have any more information, or if they have a module available on their end which has not been published yet. I'll let you guys know if this is the case.

Thanks,

It looks like Crestron has updated their module on the Application Market.
I'm going to give it a go and let you all know.

After a quick glance through that new v2.5 module, it does not appear to be using the 'globaldir' command.

Not a good sign, as Polycom have indicated that the 'gaddrbook' command does not (always) query a LDAP directory properly, and likely never will.

Steve or anyone else... Have you had any luck with the new module?

Tim

So after a two week stint going back and forth with Crestron, it seems like they have no plans to change the module to work using the other commands. Unfortunately our client is using an LDAP directory. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to work with this even to search? Or is there a possibility a SIMPL+ module exists to parse the feedback back after sending the "globaldir" command to search?

Tim

I created a module that searches the global directory with gaddrbook batch search. It wasn't that difficult. The search is just a little slow. If you can tie directly into their LDAP directory it would probably return results faster.

I am going to be looking into this tomorrow on site. I have an install that will have about 20 group series codecs. I never promised the installer that the global directories would function properly or at all due to the issues I read from this group (thx for the warnings). Regardless they still want it surprise! I may have to write a module for the directory. Crestron may be fed up with Polycom and so they could be leaving it up to us. Although in masters class today Crestron said they are coming out with a smart object/app to parse and search codec directories from Cisco and Polycom! One can dream.

Hi
I am having the same issues with a client with 8k directory using microsoft lync via the group 500. Would you be kind enough to share you code with me ?

Regards

Anthony
