Core 3 Animation vs Dynamic Graphic

Heath Volmer

Before I go experimenting: I'm working with some image objects that have 250+ icons, and there are several of these on a page. Needless to say, it is choking VTPro - It's like VTPro thinks that it has to analyze every last little detail of the thing each time I click on it. If I click on one, it takes 5+ seconds to select. Well, I just had to select 12 of them and after waiting a minute for VTPro to catch up I'm left wondering if there is a better way.

These icons are mostly static during runtime - for channel preset selection. If I stored them all on the processor's webserver, and loaded them when they were needed, would I get reasonable performance? Does a panel cache anything or will it be a fresh load each time the URL is sent to the image?

My concern is: because I'm sharing joins via crosspoints for several different satellite or cable sources - and if for some reason they have different preset lists - when switching from one source to another the icons might be confused until the images update. Probably not a big deal...

Any experiences? I'll probably only be loading 12 or so at a time.

Heath

Not only do the Chore-3 panels not cache images internally, but they
actively resist external caching by adding a randomized query
parameter to their HTTP requests.

The processor's web server can handle up to 15 (?) connections
simultaneously -- any more get a '503 Service Unavailable' response.

With 12 images on the page, if two panels update at the same time?
I've no clue how a panel would react to a 503...

Hmm. ? I'll just have to make a point of not touching these animations unless I have time for coffee in between selections. ?Or get my desktop software up-to-date, which has a bit more power to drive this monstrosity that is Core 3. ?Yay Flash!
