Tagging People

 

I came back to groups.io today from a long hiatus because I was having issue that I needed some help with.? I have been using the various Crestron Facebook groups and Discord servers for years.? A feature that I use all the time in both FB and Discord is tagging people.? I can put an @Somebodys-Name in a post and that person gets notified and directed to the post.? I tried tagging people here on groups.io and it doesn't appear to do anything.? Is there a way to tag people here so that they get notified?? Also, is there a way to setup my profile here on groups.io so that I get notified when someone posts to a message that I either originally entered or participated in?? If there features are not available in groups.io, has anyone looked into the possibility of migrating to a more modern platform that supports features like tagging people and getting notified when someone responds to one of your posts???

Groups.io was selected because it gives us the ability to have a primarily email based platform.? That comes with some pluses and minuses.? One of the negatives is that some more modern features like tagging people would probably be tricky to implement in a useful manner.? One of the big positives and one of the primary reasons we selected this platform is that we were able to bring along the group's message archive from Yahoo Groups.? I'm honestly not sure that I would want to go through that effort again as it took Tony and I a fair amount of effort to find a reasonable platform that supported bringing the history over and as I recall it took me a decent amount of effort to actually make that migration happen.

I can appreciate that Geoff.? I've just gotten spoiled with being able to tag people and get notified when there is activity on a thread that I participated in.? I appreciate what you and Tony have done here.? If you run across a way to do either of those things and it's not a lot of work, I would appreciate it.? Thanks!

I subscribed to the daily digest, so it's just one email per day. With a quick scan, I can see if there's anything new I should look at, or if any old threads that I've been a part of have new activity. It's not quite what you're asking about, but it works for me and is way better than getting all the emails.

I do the same thing as Josh mentioned and it works great. Subscribing to a daily digest allows me to see at a glance what's going on in the community at large.
If anything, I get to learn about "problems that I don't even know I'm gonna have yet".
This community is a very important source of knowledge, decades of experience gathered in one place and feels less restrictive than other channels like Discord. I guess I'm just old school.

Checking the new posts here has become part of my morning routiune- check here, check Labs, check Crestron.com for new firmware, and for me the Lutron and Savant forums new posts. Getting to be an old man and set in my habits...
