Getting iPAD to act like a touchPanel
Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone has found a way to make iPADs *Feel* more like TouchPanels. i.e. making the Wake/Sleep process more immediate. I have only found that if I change the iPAD settings for 'No Password' and Lock screen to 'Never' this will keep the iPAD awake and always available. However, this causes the backlight to never turn off, which of course is not preferable. I'm looking for a way to never have the iPAD go to the lock screen AND have the brightness/backlight timeout after x time of no activity. Anyone found a way to do this, even with a 3rd party app or something?? It would seem that with all the Apps out there that use the iPAD for commercial purposes (ex: Square, etc.) that someone else in another business market would have wanted to do this as well... |
In a CrestronGO dedicated iPad, I go into Accessibility settings and enable Guided Access.? ?It asks to create a password.? I then open the CrestronGO project and triple-click the Home Button or Side button and follow the instructions.
Here is the Apple User Guide for it.??https://support.apple.com/guide/ipad/use-guided-access-ipada16d1374/ipados#:~:text=Go%20to%20Settings%20%3E%20Accessibility%20%3E%20Guided,Passcode%2C%20then%20enter%20a%20passcode. -- Doug G |
Thanks, Doug.
I'm familiar with that but it doesn't solve my real issue (unless something changed from a year ago). Plus, I need the iPAD to do other things (launch other apps) even though it is a *dedicated* TP. I'm looking to disable the lock screen AND still have the unit go to sleep (turn off the backlight) with a touch to wake it again... |
Is it on a dock?? I'm not an iOS person but it seems like there should be a way to go to have it go to a screen saver when it is charging.? We have been using them in the Heckler wall-mount MX security brackets and have a POE+ to USB-C or Lightning adaptor to interface them with the control network.? This is for dedicated Commercial installations so it may not be applicable to your installation.

We're using the iPort wall-mount units with the POE+Ethernet adapter so when its docked it is an ethernet connection vs WiFi (Pretty cool!)
The issue is that Apple conflates Lock screen and Backlighting - typically, If it uses the lock screen feature, it will go dark and then go to the lock screen (which we don't want). If you set it to never go to the lock screen, then it never turns off the backlight... You bring up an interesting item in that maybe I can go to a screen saver (black screen), but I wonder if it will actually turn off the backlight. In resi applications we want no light bleeding thru, esp. in bedrooms. And also we don't want to burn the backlight 24/7 even if its not visable as it likely will degrade the units life |
It almost sounds like you need a TSW touchpanel... :-)

At least 50% more and I struggle to see the value add? ? We use loads of iPads in various mounts,? Not used Heckler before, but like the look! - Thanks Doug G for sharing? ??? The trade off with iPads is the delay and screen lock after being inactive......? |
